Overview

Swift Windsteed

Game iconSwift Windsteed is a Pandaria-style flying mount, fashioned as a turquoise windsteed with golden tack. The mount belongs to the line of exclusive promotional rewards and, throughout its history, has been handed out in three different ways: through the in-game shop, for watching streams on Twitch, and via an Amazon Prime Gaming subscription. The mount is currently out of sale, but Blizzard periodically brings it back as part of promotional events.

Why get this mount

The flying windsteed is valuable for several reasons at once:

  • A rare collectible mount. After sales closed in January 2019, new players can only obtain it during short promotional windows.
  • Counts toward mount-collecting achievements — for example, Lord of the Reins.
  • Versatile type — the very same item works as both a ground and a flying mount. The speed automatically adjusts to your riding skill and location.
  • Recognizable appearance. The windsteed model is rare — besides this mount, there are three more color variations, all also removed from sale.

The mount is account-bound — once activated, it appears in the mount collection of all characters.

How to get the mount

Method 1. Blizzard in-game shop (no longer available)

The Swift Windsteed was sold in the Battle.net shop from January 8, 2013 at a price of 25 USD / 25 EUR. Sales were stopped on January 19, 2019, and the mount was placed in the Blizzard archive. It is no longer in the shop, but Blizzard reserves the right to return the item to sale.

If the mount returns to the shop:

  1. Log in to the Blizzard shop with your account.
  2. In the World of Warcraft → Mounts section, find the Swift Windsteed.
  3. After purchase, the mount will automatically appear in the collection on all characters of the corresponding region.

Method 2. Twitch Drops (event ended)

From December 9 to 13, 2022, ahead of the release of the Dragonflight expansion, Blizzard ran a Twitch Drops event. To get the mount, you had to:

  1. Link your Battle.net account to Twitch via the connections page.
  2. Enable Drops in your Twitch settings.
  3. Watch any eligible World of Warcraft stream with the Drops Enabled tag for a total of at least 4 hours.
  4. Claim the mount in the Drops & Rewards tab on Twitch and accept it in your Battle.net inventory.

This event was a one-time offer and has now ended.

Method 3. Amazon Prime Gaming (event ended)

From December 26, 2023 to January 30, 2024, the mount was given away to Amazon Prime subscribers through Prime Gaming. The procedure to obtain it was as follows:

  1. Sign up for an Amazon Prime subscription.
  2. Go to the Prime Gaming page and log in.
  3. Find the World of Warcraft — Swift Windsteed card and click Claim Now.
  4. Link your Battle.net account if you haven't already.
  5. Copy the issued code and redeem it in the Battle.net client under Redeem a Code.

This event has also ended. Prime Gaming regularly brings back old rewards, so it's worth checking the catalog from time to time.

What you can do now

Since the three main sources are unavailable, there are few ways to get the mount right now:

  • Keep an eye on Blizzard announcements. Before major releases (new expansions, anniversaries), Blizzard often brings archived mounts back as promotional rewards or in Twitch Drops events.
  • Keep an eye on Prime Gaming. Amazon periodically re-gives away previously issued rewards.

Buying from third-party sellers and reselling accounts violate the Blizzard User Agreement and may lead to a ban.

Tips

1

After obtaining the mount, check for it in the Collections → Mounts tab (default key Shift+P). If the mount is missing but the event was successfully activated — restart the game and check the Battle.net account the game is linked to.

2

The mount is available to all characters on the account in the region of activation. If you have played on servers in different regions (EU and US), the mount needs to be activated separately on each account.

3

There are no lengthy quest chains or reputations here — as soon as the code is activated or the purchase is made, the mount appears in the collection immediately.
