Talon of the Tempest — Transmog Set Guide

Talon of the Tempest is an epic one-handed caster dagger added to World of Warcraft alongside the anniversary event in patch 9.1. It is a scaling version of the classic model from The Burning Crusade expansion: the appearance fully matches the original, but the item level adjusts to your character's level, so you can obtain the look at almost any stage of the game.

Visually, it is a short blade with a curved edge and a dark bone hilt. The silhouette is kept in a cold blue-steel palette with a faint purple tint — a grim, "demonic" aesthetic that fits the looks of Outland and Illidari casters well. The appearance is recognizable to anyone who played during The Burning Crusade era: the classic dagger of the same name uses the very same model.

The item's stats include intellect, stamina, critical strike rating and haste rating, so in combat the dagger goes to mages, druids, priests, shamans, warlocks and conjurers. For transmogrification these restrictions do not matter: once any character on the account obtains the item, the look is saved to the appearance collection forever.

Talon of the Tempest drops from the world boss Doomwalker — a giant mechanical Fel guardian brought to Azeroth specifically to celebrate the World of Warcraft anniversary. This is a special anniversary version of the famous boss from The Burning Crusade era.

Where to find the boss:

• Doomwalker patrols the Southern Shore in Tanaris, south of the Caverns of Time.
• The approximate coordinates of the patrol point are /way Tanaris 63 59.
• The easiest way to get there is via the portal to the Caverns of Time from Orgrimmar or Stormwind — from there it is literally a couple of minutes of mount flight to the spawn point.

When the boss is available:

• The encounter is active only during the annual World of Warcraft anniversary celebration. The event takes place once a year, usually from mid-November to early December.
• In 2025 the 21st anniversary celebration ran from November 16 to December 7.
• Outside the anniversary window, Doomwalker is not present in Tanaris — you have to wait for the next launch of the event.

How to obtain the look:

• This is a full-fledged world boss with a large health pool and strong area damage. You cannot defeat it solo even at max level — gather a raid or join an open group through the finder tool.
• The encounter scales: you can participate starting at level 15, and the loot will adjust to your character's level.
• You can receive loot from the boss once per day per character while the anniversary event is running.
• According to Wowhead, the drop chance for Talon of the Tempest from a single kill is around 6%, so for the look it makes sense to clear the boss every day of the event and, if possible, set up several characters to farm.

The same fight guaranteed drops the toy Doomwalker Trophy Stand, and there is also a chance to get the flying mount Illidari Doomhawk — a large dragonhawk in the same demonic style.

The Talon of the Tempest look has a direct classic source, as well as a kindred weapon from the same world boss loot.

The classic Talon of the Tempest is the original from The Burning Crusade era. It gives the same model and drops from the world boss Doomwalker in Shadowmoon Valley by the gates of the Black Temple all year round, with no tie to the event. It suits those who do not want to wait for the annual celebration: the look in the appearance collection is identical for both versions.

The same loot during the anniversary drops the Ethereum Nexus-Reaver — a two-handed axe for warriors, paladins and death knights. It is not a recolor of the dagger but a separate weapon, yet it farms in parallel: a single run on Doomwalker gives a chance at several looks at once.

There are no color recolors of this particular dagger model — the look is unique to the weapon of The Burning Crusade era and is repeated only in the anniversary version 186468.

• The cold blue-steel palette with a purple tint fits well into sets built around the demonic aesthetic of the Illidari and Outland.
• The bone hilt and curved blade pair with plate and leather sets in dark shades — for example, with gear from The Burning Crusade dungeons.
• It looks striking against light cloth sets of mages and priests, adding a cold, threatening note to the look.
• It suits transmogs built around the theme of the Fel and the Burning Legion: the purple tint echoes the energy of demons.
