Talon of Vultros — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Talon of Vultros is a one-handed dagger of rare quality and one of the most recognizable items of classic Azeroth. It is a short blade with a plain straight edge and a dark hilt, kept in an understated grey-steel palette — the typical look of weapons from the low-level zones of the Eastern Kingdoms.
The dagger dates back to the era of the original game and to this day remains a popular target for transmog hunters. The reason is not the appearance itself but the source: the item is tied to the rare mob Vultros in Westfall. Only someone who caught the rare vulture alive can obtain such a dagger, so the blade is prized as a "trophy from the hunt" rather than an ordinary purchase from a vendor.
This weapon suits the classes that wield daggers: rogues, druids, warlocks, mages, priests, shamans and hunters. For collectors, the look of the Talon of Vultros is a tidy, neutral dagger that fits into almost any melee outfit.
Source
The Talon of Vultros is obtained in only one way — it drops from the rare mob Vultros. This is a rare vulture of level 13–30 that dwells among the farm fields in the north of Westfall.
Key facts about obtaining it:
- There is a single source — a personal kill of the rare mob, with no alternative vendor or crafting recipe.
- The dagger's drop chance from Vultros is about 25%, meaning roughly one kill in four.
- Vultros is not elite; almost any character of any level and class can solo him in a few seconds.
- After being killed, the rare mob goes into a long respawn — measured in hours rather than minutes.
The main difficulty here is not the fight but finding Vultros himself. The rare mob appears at only one of several fixed points and does not patrol between them: wherever he respawned, that is where he stays.
Known spawn points of Vultros in the north of Westfall:
Make a loop around these points. If the rare mob is at none of them, he is either still respawning or has already been killed by another player, and it is worth coming back later.
Who it suits visually
- It pairs with early leather and cloth sets of the Eastern Kingdoms — the neutral grey-steel palette does not clash with the muted colors of starter outfits.
- It harmonizes with rogue-"drifter" and mercenary looks: a plain blade without ornate details reads as a working weapon rather than a ceremonial one.
- It looks good alongside an equally modest second dagger — for rogues assembling a symmetrical set of two one-handed blades.
- It contrasts with heavy plate armor: a small, unassuming dagger next to massive armor can look questionable, so such a look is worth checking in advance.
- A fitting choice for a "trophy from the hunt" theme — the blade is named after a vulture, so it fits hunting and beast-like outfits.
Tips
1
Before hunting for the dagger, study all of Vultros's spawn points — the rare mob does not patrol, so a route across the northern fields of Westfall saves the most time.
2
Bring a character that can move quickly around the zone: the faster you loop the points, the higher your chance of catching the rare mob before someone else removes him.
3
Vultros's respawn is long, so it makes sense to drop by Westfall in passing — for example while doing other things in the zone, rather than sitting and waiting in one place.
4
The dagger's drop chance is about 25%, so a single kill is often not enough — be ready to catch the rare mob several times.
5
Use addons for finding rare mobs: an alert tied to Vultros's ID will instantly tell you when the vulture has appeared nearby.
6
The appearance unlocks in the collection when the item is obtained by any character on the account — after that the Talon of Vultros is available for transmogrification to all your characters of suitable classes.
7
On crowded servers competition for the rare mob is higher; the quiet hours of night noticeably raise your chances of getting the dagger first.
