Overview

Talongrip Dagger

Game iconTalongrip Dagger is a one-handed dagger of uncommon quality, added to World of Warcraft alongside the reworking of Kalimdor in the Cataclysm expansion.

In silhouette it is a short blade with a straight crossguard and a dark hilt — a characteristic dagger series found among items of the Horde's starting and mid-level zones. The dagger itself is named after the orc quest giver — Darn Talongrip, who hands out this weapon as a reward. From a transmogrification collection standpoint the model is a familiar one: after the first acquisition it is permanently unlocked in the wardrobe tab and becomes available to all eligible characters on the account.

Source

The item is given as a reward for the quest "The Queen and Her Court" in the Stonetalon Mountains zone. It is a Cataclysm-era quest belonging to the low-level leveling chain of levels 25–30 and is physically available to the Horde only: completing it grants reputation with Orgrimmar.

  • The quest giver is Darn Talongrip, an orc fighter on the Webwinder Path in the Stonetalon Mountains. The NPC's coordinates are roughly /way 65 82 in the zone.
  • The quest objective is to kill Queen Silith and any ten spiders in the Webwinder Hollow, northwest of the quest giver's location.
  • The coordinates of the queen and her court are roughly /way 56 71 in the same zone.
  • As a reward you may choose one of two items: "Talongrip Dagger" or Game icon"Darn Legguards" (plate legguards for a warrior or paladin).
  • The quest is completed once per character. To unlock the model again on another character, you will have to run them through this part of the Stonetalon Mountains all over again.
  • It binds on pickup, so passing it from an alt to your main character is impossible — choose the reward on the very character you actually want to unlock it in the wardrobe for.
  • Queen Silith is a single spider with a normal health bar, killed in a couple of seconds by practically any class at max level.

To quickly reach the quest on the desired Horde character, get to the Stonetalon Mountains by any convenient means — the portal from Orgrimmar to the Barrens and then along the road heading west, or a class teleport (druid, shaman) nearby. Darn stands together with a group of Kor'kron riflemen on the road leading to the Webwinder Hollow, so he is hard to miss: aim for the cluster of orc NPCs on the eastern part of the location.

After picking up the quest, head down the path to the west and northwest to the large hollow filled with deepmoss spiders. A dozen ordinary spiders get knocked out in passing as you work your way to the center of the hollow, where Queen Silith sits. Once you have her counted toward the quest, return to Darn and choose exactly "Talongrip Dagger" in the reward window.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Looks for low-level Cataclysm-era orcs and trolls of the Horde — the dagger reads well in the hand of a Kor'kron fighter or a Blackclaw stalker.
  • Dark leather rogue sets of starting and mid-level zones: the slim, straight model does not draw attention to itself and works as a paired blade alongside a larger dagger.
  • Enhancement shaman builds in the spirit of the Blackclaw clan — the gray hilt and steel blade suit sets with spiked leather and dark-green accents.
  • Looks for a hunter of spiders and insects: thematically the dagger is directly tied to slaying the spider queen and plays out the hunting line of the Stonetalon Mountains.
  • A contrast with the bright cloth robes of a mage or priest: the plain steel model works as a utilitarian accent against saturated colors.

Tips

1

The dagger is available to the Horde only, so go for the model on an orc, goblin, troll, tauren or elf Horde character — the Alliance has no such quest branch.

2

At max level the whole route "portal → quest → queen → return to Darn" takes 5–10 minutes: the spiders and the queen herself die almost instantly.

3

Before turning in the quest, make sure you click exactly "Talongrip Dagger" in the reward window and not the plate legguards — the choice is final and cannot be redone on this character.

4

If you want to grab both models at once, after picking up the quest on one Horde character repeat the chain once more on a second Horde character and take the other reward option — the models unlock in the wardrobe separately.

5

Class does not matter for farming speed: any character with a ranged or strong melee attack will do, since Queen Silith is an ordinary spider with no special mechanics.

6

Alongside this quest in the Stonetalon Mountains you also close out other low-level zone rewards and reputation with Orgrimmar, so it makes sense to complete several quests around the Webwinder Path in one go.

7

Keep in mind that uncommon Cataclysm-era items are very rarely removed from leveling spots, so no separate sources for this particular model have appeared in later patches — the quest remains the only way to unlock it.
