Tarachnid Creeper
Overview

Tarachnid Creeper is an epic ground mount added to World of Warcraft in patch 9.2 "Eternity's End" (Shadowlands) on February 22, 2022. It is a dark tarachnid spider with a purple-black carapace, crafted through the Protoform Synthesis system in Zereth Mortis. According to legend, tarachnids dwell in the darkest corners of Zereth Mortis and leave their hiding places only to hunt — or, occasionally, to give a rider a ride.
Unlike drop mounts, the Tarachnid Creeper cannot be obtained directly: you gather all the ingredients yourself and create it at the Protoform Forge. This route is especially convenient for collectors who want to control their progress without depending on a random drop.
Why You Want This Mount
- Unique spider model — one of three tarachnids from the Protoform Synthesis system (alongside the
Genesis Crawler and the Ineffable Skitterer), distinguished by its grim dark-purple coloring. - Guaranteed acquisition — with the schematic and resources in hand, the mount is created in a single click, with no dependence on drop chance.
- Account-wide access — once created, the mount is unlocked for every character on your account, regardless of faction and class.
- Current Shadowlands content — Zereth Mortis and Protoform Synthesis remain fully accessible at max level in 11.1 The War Within.
- Counts toward collector achievements — it counts toward the overall mount-count meta-achievements and helps complete the Shadowlands collection.
How to Obtain
The path to the Tarachnid Creeper involves unlocking the Protoform Synthesis system in Zereth Mortis, acquiring the
Schematic: Tarachnid Creeper, and collecting three types of ingredients.
- Complete the Shadowlands campaign up to reaching Zereth Mortis. To enter the zone you must finish the Korthia storyline and begin the chapter "Into the Unknown" in Oribos.
- Complete chapter 3 of the Zereth Mortis campaign and pick up the quest "Cyphers of the First Ones," which unlocks the Cypher Console
- Fully research the Metrial Understanding talent in the Cypher Console — it unlocks mount crafting at the Protoform Synthesis forge.
- Complete chapter 5 of the campaign and finish the quest "Aggressive Excavation" — it clears the rubble blocking the building with the schematic.
- Pick up
Schematic: Tarachnid Creeper in a small triangular structure in the Sterling Sands (near the spawns of the "Power of the Dune" rares). - Accumulate 450
Genesis Motes, 1
Revelation Key, and 1
Tarachnid Lattice. - Approach the Protoform Forge in the center of Zereth Mortis and create the mount.
Crafting Ingredients
To create the Tarachnid Creeper you need to gather three different resources. The motes accumulate passively during any activity in Zereth Mortis, while the lattice and the key require focused farming.
| Ingredient | Quantity | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| 450 | Drop from almost all mobs in Zereth Mortis, from chests, and from daily quests | |
| 1 | Guaranteed drop from the rare "Protector of the First Ones" | |
| 1 | Drops from tarachnids and elite spiders in Zereth Mortis, as well as from "Tarachnid Egg" chests | |
| 1 | Lies on the ground in a triangular structure in the Sterling Sands |
Farming the Tarachnid Lattice
Tarachnid Lattice is the key ingredient, dropping from tarachnid spiders in Zereth Mortis. The drop chance is higher from elite and rare enemies, as well as from egg chests.
- Travel to a location with a dense tarachnid spawn — a good spot is in the eastern part of Zereth Mortis at the coordinates /way 61.6 59.0
- Clear regular and elite tarachnids — elites have a significantly higher drop chance
- At the same time, look for "Tarachnid Egg" and "Olea's Cache" chests — they also give a chance at the lattice
- Kill rare spiders if you come across them while farming — rares have the best drop chance
The lattice binds on pickup and stacks in a shared stack of up to 20. The same lattice is needed for four Protoform Synthesis recipes, so with luck you will immediately have a stockpile for several mounts.
Farming the Revelation Key
Revelation Key is a guaranteed drop from the rare "Protector of the First Ones". It is a unique item — you can hold a maximum of 2 such keys at once.
- The rare spawns in a cave in the "Grasp of Zovaal" location in Zereth Mortis at the coordinates /way 39.0 27.0
- The cave entrance is sealed by a barrier. To remove it, two players are needed who simultaneously activate consoles, placing the required Enigmatic Sigils on the floor. Players usually arrange this in local chat and open the barrier as a group
- The rare has a loot lock of once per character per week, so you can get one key per account every 7 days
- The key is also needed for other Protoform Synthesis mounts, so plan your farming several weeks ahead
Farming Genesis Motes
Genesis Motes are the basic resource of Zereth Mortis, collected alongside any activity in the zone. The Tarachnid Creeper requires 450 motes.
- Do the Zereth Mortis daily quests — they provide a steady flow of motes and reputation with the Enlightened
- Clear mobs in any part of the zone: motes drop from almost everything alive
- Open chests and caches on the map — inside there are often bundles of motes of varying size
- Take part in the "Dance of the Resto" event and other public activities — the rewards include bundles of motes
- If you play multiple characters, motes drop on each one — over a week several alts gather the needed amount without focused farming
Obtaining the Schematic
Schematic: Tarachnid Creeper lies on the floor in a small triangular structure in the Sterling Sands (the southwestern part of Zereth Mortis). The structure is easy to find: it is located to the left of the round pit in the center of the sands, where the rares from the "Power of the Dune" event spawn.
- The entrance to the structure is blocked by rubble until the quest "Aggressive Excavation" is completed — it is part of chapter 5 of the Zereth Mortis campaign
- If the storyline has not yet been finished, players use a trick: they die at the door from outside and respawn already inside the room. It does not always work and falls under "gray" mechanics, so it is better to simply complete the campaign
- After picking up the schematic, it is learned automatically — the recipe appears at the Protoform Synthesis forge
Optimizing Collection
Weekly Cycle
The main bottleneck is the
Revelation Key. It drops once a week per character, so plan the order of crafting Protoform Synthesis mounts in advance.
- Each week, kill the Protector of the First Ones — you get a new key
- At the same time, farm the Tarachnid Lattice on any tarachnids in the zone
- Do the daily quests for a flow of motes
- As soon as all three ingredients are gathered — craft the mount at the Protoform Forge
Multi-Farming on Alts
If you have several leveled characters, each of them can earn its own revelation key and its own lattice. This speeds up collecting several Protoform Synthesis mounts at once, since the key and the lattice are the same for different recipes.
- Level the Zereth Mortis campaign on each alt up to unlocking the Forge
- Loot the rare on each character within the week
- Extra lattices and keys can be used for the other tarachnid mounts —
Genesis Crawler,
Ineffable Skitterer
Tips
Research all Cypher Console talents in advance — Protoform Synthesis requires the full research of Metrial Understanding. Talents take a long time to research, so start right when you arrive in the zone.
Don't skip the daily quests — they provide reputation, motes, and a chance at lattices from quest rewards. One daily activity per day covers your resource needs within 2–3 weeks.
Coordinate with players for the Protector of the First Ones — removing the barrier requires at least two people. Use local chat or the LFG channel on your server.
Watch the loot lock — the
Revelation Key is marked as "unique." If you already have 2 keys in your inventory, a new one won't drop. Spend them on crafting before your next run.
Use every lattice source — besides killing spiders, check the "Tarachnid Egg" and "Olea's Cache" chests on the map. This speeds up farming considerably.
Keep a stockpile of motes — Protoform Synthesis lets you craft 25 mounts and 28 pets, and many recipes use motes. Even after the Tarachnid Creeper, a reserve will come in handy.
The mount is account-wide after creation — as soon as the Tarachnid Creeper appears on one character, it is unlocked in the collection of your entire account.
