Get The Kingslayers

The Kingslayers are one-handed artifact daggers for the Assassination rogue specialization, added to World of Warcraft with the Legion expansion. The model is a pair of dark, curved blades with restrained engraving along the edge: the appearance is deliberately understated, with no flashy glow, which makes it a handy base for assassin or spy transmog sets. In the collection the artifact is recorded as a single appearance: the weapon cannot be equipped separately, as the two daggers always come as a pair.

In lore, these blades were forged by the warlock Gul'dan for his personal assassin. According to legend, it was with them that Garona Halforcen killed Llane Wrynn, King of Stormwind. After the regicide Garona hid the artifact, and in Legion the assassination rogue brings the daggers back from oblivion to turn them against the Burning Legion instead.

As a combat weapon the artifact stayed in Legion: it cannot be equipped outside the Assassination rogue, and it was leveled up through that expansion's artifact trait system. Today The Kingslayers are interesting primarily as transmog: alongside the base appearance, five additional variants with their own color tints, including a hidden one, are unlocked in the collection.

The Kingslayers are awarded for completing the artifact scenario The Unseen Blade. The scenario is available to a rogue character with the Assassination specialization, and the daggers are handed over as the quest reward: farming and drop chances do not apply here, as every assassination rogue who completes the chain receives the artifact.

• The starting area is Dalaran above the Broken Isles; the first quest is taken in the rogue class order hall and leads the player into the order's inner chamber.
• During the scenario you set off on the trail of the hidden blades and fight enemies guarding the cache, after which the daggers become yours.
• The completion of the quest and the official handover of the artifact are carried out by Garona Halforcen in the Chamber of Shadows — the central hall of the rogue class order.
• The scenario is completed solo and is tied to the class order, so neither a group nor reputation is needed to obtain the artifact.
• The daggers become personal upon receipt and automatically occupy both weapon slots.

To unlock the rest of the artifact's appearances in the collection, you need to meet separate conditions — each following "family" of appearances is tied to its own source and is described below.

The artifact has five additional appearance "families" on top of the base one. Each family has its own name and its own set of color tints. They are all unlocked only on the Assassination rogue for whom the artifact was designed.

• Base appearance. Unlocked automatically upon completing the quest The Unseen Blade together with the artifact itself. Additional tints of this family were granted for progressing through Legion's artifact trait system.
• Class order campaign appearance. Unlocked by completing the rogue class campaign and the related class order progression achievements, the key one of which is "Power Realized" for unlocking the artifact traits.
• "Valorous" appearance. Granted for completing the "Balance of Power" quest chain and the accompanying challenges across Legion's Mythic dungeons and world bosses.
• War appearance. The PvP variant of the daggers. Additional tints were unlocked for honor levels 10, 30, 50 and 80 in Legion's PvP system.
• Hidden appearance. Unlocked by a special item from the dungeons of Broken Shore Dalaran — details in the section below.
• Challenge appearance. A reward for personally completing the "Wrath of the Goddess-Queen" challenge in the original Legion Mage Tower. After the closure of the Mage Tower in Legion this appearance became unavailable; the updated version of the Mage Tower from the Shadowlands expansion does not grant the original artifact weapon appearances.

Hidden "Bonereavers" appearance

The hidden appearance of the artifact is unlocked by the item The Cypher of Broken Bone. This is a unique item that has a chance to drop from rare enemies and chests in The Underbelly — the underground labyrinth beneath Dalaran.

• The cypher's drop chance increases noticeably after the character reaches the fifth level of artifact knowledge, so farming the hidden appearance is usually put off to a later stage of artifact progression.
• In The Underbelly the state of the location alternates: while the sewer guard is active, rare enemies roam the tunnels; when the guard is gone, chests appear in their place.
• Both rare enemies and chests can contain The Cypher of Broken Bone, so it makes sense to check the location in any of its states.
• The hidden appearance and its additional tints are leveled up through Legion meta tasks — completing dungeons, finishing local quests and defeating players in PvP.

If you specifically want these dagger models, there is no alternative source for them: outside the Assassination rogue The Kingslayers cannot be equipped and are not recorded into the collection for other classes. Similar short curved blades in silhouette can be found among ordinary daggers from Legion dungeons and raids — they make good substitutes for the artifact in transmog for other classes.

• Suits the looks of hired assassins and spies in dark leather armor — the model is restrained and does not draw attention away from the set.
• Harmonizes with dark gray and black leather armor, especially with Broken Isles rogue sets in a noir palette.
• The hidden "Bonereavers" appearance suits concepts with bone and necromancy motifs — the model is bony and thematically echoes death knight and reaper sets.
• The "Valorous" appearance stands out with a more ceremonial palette and pairs well with gold-and-white, parade Legion sets.
• The war appearance of the daggers fits naturally into Legion PvP builds and looks with runic or magical themes.
• Contrasts with light plate armor — a debatable but expressive combination for the look of a hired assassin in heavy gear.
