The Sleeper — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

The Sleeper is an epic-quality one-handed dagger worn in the main hand. It is part of the rogue legendary dagger chain Fangs of the Father, added to World of Warcraft in patch 4.3 of the Cataclysm expansion. Visually the dagger nods to Dragon Soul: a dark curved blade with crimson veins and a pommel styled after the models of the Dragon Soul raid.
The Sleeper is paired with
The Dreamer — an off-hand dagger sharing the same model. Together they form the Maw of Oblivion set, the second of three tiers of the rogue legendary weapon. The Sleeper is visually identical to the model of The Dreamer, so for transmog the two items are interchangeable by silhouette.
This weapon is interesting first and foremost as transmog: an item level of 49 makes its combat value purely nominal, while the dark draconic aesthetic of the blade remains sought after among collectors.
Source
The Sleeper cannot be bought or farmed directly — it is a reward for a quest within the Fangs of the Father legendary chain. The chain is available only to rogues.
- The specific source quest is Victory in the Depths. It is the second-to-last of the chain's "travel" steps.
- The quest is turned in to Wrathion, known as the Black Prince. He is found at the Old Cliff manor in the Arati Lowland of the Hillsbrad Foothills.
- For completing the quest, the rogue receives both daggers at once: The Sleeper and The Dreamer.
- To reach this step you must complete the chain's earlier quests, including the stage with the first pair of daggers —
Fear and
Vengeance. - The chain is tightly tied to the Dragon Soul raid: the quest that follows obtaining The Sleeper, Sharpening Your Fangs, requires gathering 60 clusters of elementium gems from the bosses of that raid.
You can obtain The Sleeper once per character — it is a story item, not a drop with a recurring chance.
Who It Suits Visually
- Suits armor sets from the Dragon Soul raid: the dark draconic palette of the blade echoes the tier of the same patch.
- Harmonizes with dark-red and blackened sets — the blade's crimson veins pick up the red accents of the armor.
- Fitting in looks themed around Deathwing and the Twilight's Hammer: the model directly references the finale of the Cataclysm storyline.
- Looks great paired with The Dreamer — two identical blades in both hands give the rogue a symmetrical silhouette.
Tips
The Fangs of the Father chain is available only to rogues — players of other classes will not be able to obtain this transmog.
The Sleeper is given alongside The Dreamer automatically; there is no need to farm the second dagger separately.
Before the Victory in the Depths step you must complete the entire preceding part of the chain, so budget time for the "travel" quests across Azeroth.
The next quest, Sharpening Your Fangs, requires 60 clusters of elementium gems from the Dragon Soul raid — stockpile them in parallel while visiting the raid.
The Dragon Soul raid itself is easily soloed in modern expansions, so getting stuck on collecting the gems is nearly impossible.
If your goal is the appearance only, remember: The Sleeper is intermediate, and if you wish you can take the chain to the final daggers, Golad, Twilight of Aspects and Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages, which unlock yet another model variant.
Item level 49 is a formality: focus on transmog value, not stats.
