The Soulblade is a one-handed dagger of epic quality (item level 39), added to World of Warcraft with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.
The dagger's model is a narrow blade with a massive cross-shaped hilt and a dark guard, echoing the design of the Scourge undead weapons from Naxxramas. The item has no lore tie-in: it is a "silent" epic from the first wave of WotLK raid loot, valued today primarily as a rare silhouette for transmog sets.

The dagger drops from Kel'Thuzad — the final boss of the Naxxramas raid. Exact drop parameters:
- Raid: Naxxramas, 10-player mode.
- Drop chance: 8.42% according to Wowhead.
- Binding: becomes soulbound on pickup, unique-equipped.
- Attempt limit: one raid lockout per week per character.
How to Get into Naxxramas
The raid is located in the Dragonblight zone in Northrend. The entrance is a floating necropolis above the south-eastern part of the zone, with approximate coordinates 87, 51. To get in, simply fly to the necropolis on a flying mount and drop onto the platform with the glowing portal. No quest chains, keys, or reputation are required to enter Naxxramas — the raid is open to all characters of the appropriate level.
Route to Kel'Thuzad
Naxxramas is divided into four wings (the Construct Quarter, the Military Quarter, the Plague Quarter, the Arachnid Quarter) and Sapphiron's Lair, which leads to Kel'Thuzad. On a solo farm you can clear the four quarters in any order, after which the teleport to Sapphiron activates, and only by defeating the dragon will you gain access to Kel'Thuzad's final platform. A full solo run takes 40–60 minutes for a class with self-healing.
Who It Suits Visually
- It fits well into sets in the "purple + steel" palette — for example, with a Warlock's or Priest's T7 tier armor, the "Regalia of the Smoldering Dread."
- It harmonizes with the cloth sets of Naxxramas and Icecrown Citadel — stylistically it belongs to the same visual school.
- It contrasts with the bright "summery" sets of Pandaria and Battle for Azeroth — a debatable but interesting choice for an "ancient artifact in modern hands" look.
- It works as a "second dagger" with rogue sets, where the first one is a massive decorative piece and the Soulblade plays the role of the hidden "real" weapon.
- Aesthetically it matches the looks of necromancers, dark priests, and Scourge cultists.
Tips
Solo-farming Naxxramas 10 on a character at the current maximum level poses no problems: all bosses are killed with standard rotations, with no individual "roadblocks."
The optimal classes for a speed run are Death Knight, Demon Hunter, and Paladin: high mobility, self-healing, and a rotation resilient to large groups speed up clearing the wings.
Kel'Thuzad is a weekly boss: the raid lockout resets on Wednesday (on European servers). You can run attempts on several characters of a single account to increase your chances for the week.
An 8.42% chance means that, on average, about 12 runs per character are needed for a guaranteed drop — plan for 2–3 months of steady farming.
Alongside the Soulblade, Kel'Thuzad also gives several other epic items of item level 39 — you will collect transmog options for other slots at the same time.
Don't skip Sapphiron: the teleport to Kel'Thuzad only opens after he is killed, so there is no way to "shortcut" the path.
The dagger counts toward your transmog collection after the first pickup on any character of the account — there is no need to farm it again.
