Timeslicer — Transmog Set Guide

Overview

Timeslicer

Game iconTimeslicer is an epic-quality one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft alongside The Burning Crusade expansion. It is a short blade with a narrow edge and a thin twisted guard in a cold grey-steel palette with a light bronze inlay along the hilt. The silhouette is restrained, with no spikes or serrations — the weapon looks like a ceremonial dagger of a timekeeper rather than a mercenary's combat knife.

In terms of stats it is an item-level 33 piece for agility-based specializations: rogues, hunters, druids in cat and bear forms, demon hunters and enhancement shamans. In the modern game item-level 33 stats carry no practical value — the blade is collected purely for its appearance.

As a transmog look the dagger is valued for its ties to the time theme: the model is built in the general "bronze-dragon" style and reads well in outfits connected to the Caverns of Time, the bronze flight and the heroes who guard the timeways.

Source

Timeslicer drops from a single boss in a single dungeon. The difficulty is heroic only.

  • Dungeon: Old Hillsbrad Foothills, part of the Caverns of Time complex in Tanaris.
  • Boss: Epoch Hunter — the dungeon's final foe, a drakonid of the Infinite flight.
  • Mode: heroic only. On normal difficulty the dagger does not drop.
  • Drop chance: about 5.7% per kill according to Wowhead data.
  • Group size: the dungeon is built for five players; in the modern game it is cleared solo.
  • Binding: it becomes soulbound on pickup, so the blade cannot be traded or sold — the look must be earned on the character who needs it.

The dungeon entrance is in the Caverns of Time in the Tanaris zone. To reach the right portal, speak with the bronze dragon steward at the entrance and choose the portal to Old Hillsbrad Foothills. The minimum level for heroic mode in the modern game is a formality: The Burning Crusade content dies in a couple of hits at current level.

Story-wise the dungeon is cleared by protecting young Thrall during his escape from Durnholde Keep: you escort the orc through several areas, and in the finale you face the Epoch Hunter, who tries to kill Thrall to alter the course of history. On the way to the final boss you meet two more opponents — Lieutenant Drake and Captain Skarloc — but Timeslicer does not drop from them.

Alternatives

Timeslicer has no known color recolors with separate item IDs — the model was used only for this blade. If you want a similar silhouette or a similar cold palette, it is worth searching among other weapons of The Burning Crusade era.

Heartrazor The Burning Crusade era content Game iconlink
Talon of the Tempest The Burning Crusade era content Game iconlink

Fang of the Crystal Spider is the closest match in spirit: the same kind of short early-era blade with compact geometry. Heartrazor and Talon of the Tempest are epic-quality daggers with more expressive blade lines for those who find the basic steel model too plain.

If you want this exact look, you should farm Timeslicer itself: the item has no alternative source for the very same model.

Who it suits visually

  • Suits outfits connected to the bronze flight and the Caverns of Time — the cold grey-steel palette echoes the colors of the time-guardian dragons.
  • Pairs well with The Burning Crusade-era rogue leather sets in grey-blue and steel tones, especially the themed sets from the Caverns of Time dungeons.
  • Looks great as a matching dagger in both hands on a rogue — two identical models build a coherent, recognizable silhouette.
  • Fits concepts of timekeepers and time wardens, where the look is built around a ceremonial rather than a combat weapon.
  • Contrasts with bright gold and red armor — a debatable but expressive combination of a cold blade and warm armor tones.

Tips

1

Enter on heroic difficulty only: on normal the dagger does not drop at all.

2

At current level the entire dungeon is cleared in a few minutes — it is more efficient to farm with a daily run than to try to win the drop on the first attempt.

3

The heroic dungeon limit is once per day per character, so to speed up farming it makes sense to bring in alts.

4

Because of soulbinding on pickup the look must be earned on the character who needs it; after you get the item the appearance unlocks in the transmogrification collection and becomes available account-wide.

5

It is most convenient to farm on classes with fast movement and high single-target damage: rogue, demon hunter, mage, druid.

6

The dungeon story revolves around escorting Thrall, but in the modern game you can go straight through the entire chain of events — the escort companions handle the stages themselves, without player input.

7

The same boss also drops other transmog loot from the Caverns of Time dungeon set — farming the look often closes several set slots at once.

8

Before entering, check the appearances collection tab: if this model is already unlocked by another item, repeat farming is unnecessary.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
