Titansteel Shanker — Transmog Set Guide

Titansteel Shanker is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.0.1). It is a crafted Blacksmithing weapon: any smith who has mastered working with titansteel can forge it.

The dagger is a massive, industrial-looking blade with a cold grey-steel sheen — the recognizable aesthetic of Northrend's northern smithing school. The silhouette is stocky and utilitarian, with no ornamentation or glow: the weapon looks like a solid working tool rather than a ceremonial relic. It is precisely this stark metallic simplicity that makes it a handy piece for transmogrification.

The dagger suits any class that uses this weapon type — rogues, druids, shamans, mages, priests and warlocks. At the peak of its season it was an item level 200 piece, so today it is of interest purely as a transmog appearance.

The Titansteel Shanker is created through the Blacksmithing profession. It is not a drop and not a reputation reward — the appearance can only be obtained by forging the item yourself or buying it from a player smith.

What you need to craft it:

• Blacksmithing skill 440 (the "Northrend Blacksmithing" section, recipe level 65).
• The Titansteel Shanker recipe — learned from any Northrend blacksmithing trainer; there is no separate plan to hunt down.
• Reagents for a single forging:
  • Saronite Bar — 6.
  • Titansteel Bar — 6.
  • Frozen Orb — 2.

The finished dagger is bind on equip, so you can freely buy it from the auction house, receive it as a gift from a smith you know, or pass it between characters on your account before equipping it.

The most expensive reagent is the titansteel bar: it is smelted from ore on a daily cooldown, so six of them either accumulate over several days or are bought from the auction house. The Frozen Orb drops from the final bosses of Northrend dungeons on heroic difficulty and is also freely sold on the auction house.

The Titansteel Shanker has no official color variants. Its closest relative by origin is the second crafted dagger from the same Northrend smithing line, with its own separate model:

The Titansteel Destroyer, a two-handed mace, comes from the same line of titansteel blacksmithing goods. It is not a slot replacement for the dagger, but when assembling a "grim steel arsenal" set both items stay within the same visual theme.

If you specifically want a stark metallic dagger with no glow, take a look at simple Northrend dungeon-level blades: they keep the same cold grey tone and are easily obtained by solo-farming old heroic dungeons.

• Fits well into a "working", non-combat look — a mercenary, blacksmith or scout outfit, where the weapon should look like a practical tool.
• The cold grey-steel sheen pairs with plate and mail sets from the Wrath of the Lich King era — for example, the silver-and-blue Northrend dungeon sets.
