Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth

Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth is an epic three-passenger ground mount added in patch 3.0.2 of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It is a massive brown mammoth carrying a saddle on its back with seats for the rider and two vendors — or two companions from your group.

The mount's main feature is its built-in vendors. One of them sells goods and reagents, while the second provides gear repair services. You can dismiss one or both vendors to free up the seats for members of your party or raid. The mount is purchased from Mei Francis in Dalaran for 20,000 gold (or for 16,000 gold at Exalted reputation with the Kirin Tor).

Once purchased, the mount becomes available to every character on your account. Using the mount also grants the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth achievement.

• Mobile repairs — one of the vendors on the mammoth repairs gear. This is indispensable in raids, dungeons, and during long play sessions away from cities
• Selling junk — you can sell unneeded items from your bags right in the field without returning to a stationary vendor. This saves time while farming
• Three-seat transport — if you dismiss the vendors, the mount carries two companions from your group. Handy for moving allies who lack a mount of their own
• Guaranteed acquisition — there is no random drop chance. You simply need to save up the gold and buy the mount from the vendor
• Account-wide access — once purchased, the mount unlocks for every character. Buy it once and use it forever
• Iconic status — the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth has been regarded as one of the most useful mounts in the game ever since Wrath of the Lich King launched. Many players consider it the first must-have purchase

The mount is bought with gold from the exotic mounts vendor in Dalaran. No reputation grind is required to make the purchase, however reputation with the Kirin Tor lowers the price.

1. Get to Dalaran. Use your hearthstone if it is set to Dalaran, or take a portal from your faction's capital
2. Find Mei Francis — the exotic mounts vendor. She stands near the Magical Menagerie building at roughly coordinates 58, 42
3. Open her trade window and find the Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth
4. Buy the item for 20,000 gold (or less if you have reputation with the Kirin Tor)
5. Use the item from your bag — the mount will be learned and will appear in your mount collection

Mei Francis is a member of the Kirin Tor faction, so the prices on her goods depend on your reputation level with that faction. The higher the reputation, the cheaper the mount will be.

The savings at Exalted come to 4,000 gold. If you do not plan to grind reputation with the Kirin Tor specifically, the difference is small — it is easier to buy the mount outright at full price.

When the mount is summoned, two vendors appear on its back. The set of vendors depends on your character's faction, however since patch 10.0.2 the vendors have become friendly to members of both factions.

How to Manage the Vendors

When the mount is summoned, buttons for managing passengers appear on the vehicle bar:

• Dismiss a vendor — press the corresponding button to remove one of the vendors and free up a seat for a companion
• Dismiss both — free up both seats for members of your party or raid
• Eject a passenger — the same buttons let you remove a passenger player from the mount

Dismissed vendors return automatically the next time the mount is summoned.

Mei Francis is located in Dalaran — the flying city of mages. There are several versions of Dalaran, and the vendor is present in both.

Dalaran over Crystalsong Forest (Northrend)

This is the original version of Dalaran from Wrath of the Lich King.

1. Use the portal to Dalaran (Northrend) from the portal room in Stormwind or Orgrimmar
2. After teleporting you will arrive in the center of the city
3. Head to the Magical Menagerie — it is the building with a green paw-shaped sign southeast of the fountain

Dalaran over the Broken Isles (Legion)

The version of Dalaran from the Legion expansion. Mei Francis is present here too.

1. Use the portal to Dalaran (Broken Isles) from the portal room
2. Find the Magical Menagerie — its location mirrors the Northrend version

Vendor Coordinates

The Traveler's Tundra Mammoth is one of the few mounts that has real practical value beyond transportation.

Repairing in a Raid

Before pulling a boss or during a break, you can summon the mammoth right inside the raid instance (in zones where mount use is allowed). Every raid member will be able to repair their gear at the vendor on your mount's back.

Clearing Bags While Farming

During long sessions of farming resources, world quests, or outdated raids, your bags fill up fast. Summon the mammoth and sell unneeded items to the vendor without interrupting your farm.

Helping Newcomers

If your group has a player without a mount or with low riding skill, seat them on the mammoth and carry them to the destination.
