Turbostrider
Overview

Turbostrider is an epic ground mount for the Alliance, added to World of Warcraft with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.1.2). It is a mechanical steed in the classic gnomish style — with a supercharged steam engine, reinforced metal legs, and a distinctive streamlined design. According to its in-game description, the rear-view mirror was installed not so you can look back, but so your opponents see more than just your exhaust pipes.
The mount is sold by Rillie Spindlenut — the Gnomeregan quartermaster on the grounds of the Argent Tournament in Icecrown. The cost is 500 gold and 5 Champion's Seals (400 gold at Exalted reputation with Gnomeregan). To purchase it, you must be a gnome or have the Champion of Gnomeregan achievement.
Why You Want This Mount
- Epic speed +100% — the mount belongs to the epic ground class and provides maximum ground movement speed with the
Journeyman Riding skill. For comparison: the basic
Gnomeregan Mechanostrider for 100 Champion's Seals from the same vendor only gives +60% speed. - Low cost — just 5 Champion's Seals and 500 gold. This is one of the most affordable purchases at the tournament: the seals can be earned in a single day of daily quests right after you earn the champion title.
- Unique model — the Turbostrider looks distinct from the standard mechanostriders available from racial vendors in Gnomeregan and Ironforge. The updated design with its supercharged engine makes it stand out in a collection.
- Collection value — the mount counts toward the Mountain o' Mounts achievement and other collection achievements. If you are farming the tournament, you should also grab the
Gnomeregan Mechanostrider along with it — two mounts from a single vendor. - Account-wide — once purchased, the mount unlocks for all Alliance characters on your account regardless of race and class.

How to Get the Mount
The full path from zero progress at the tournament to having the mount in your collection takes about 8–10 days of daily quests. If you are already a Champion of Gnomeregan, skip straight to step 6.
- Travel to the Argent Tournament grounds in the northeastern part of Icecrown. The fastest route is to fly from Dalaran in Northrend on a flying mount or use a flight master.
- Find the Alliance pavilion on the eastern side of the arena and speak with the Silver Vanguard representative to register for the tournament.
- Complete the Aspirant stage — perform the introductory daily quests on mounted combat and collect 15 Aspirant's Marks. This takes 2–3 days.
- Complete the Valiant of Gnomeregan stage — take the quest to represent Gnomeregan and collect 25 Valor Marks through daily quests. At least 5 days, 5 marks per day. If your character is not a gnome, first complete the Valiant stage for your own race, then take up the Gnomeregan chain.
- Complete the final trial — defeat the faction champion in mounted combat. After the victory you receive the Champion of Gnomeregan achievement.
- Find Rillie Spindlenut — the Gnomeregan quartermaster in the Silver Covenant pavilion on the tournament grounds.
- Open the trade window and buy the
Turbostrider for 5 Champion's Seals and 500 gold. - Use the item — the mount will appear in your collection permanently.
Argent Tournament Progression
The tournament is divided into three main stages, each of which unlocks the next rank.
| Stage | Currency | Required | Time (minimum) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aspirant | Aspirant's Mark | 15 marks | 2–3 days |
| Valiant | Valor Mark | 25 marks | 5 days |
| Champion | Win the final battle | 1 duel | 1 day |
After earning the champion title, the champion daily quests unlock, granting Champion's Seals. The five seals for the mount can be earned in one or two days.
How to Earn Champion's Seals
Champion's Seals are the main currency of the Argent Tournament. Only 5 are needed to buy the Turbostrider, so you will collect the required amount in even a single day.
- Champion daily quests — the main source. After earning the champion title of one faction, 5–8 quests per day are available, each granting 1 seal
- Heroic dungeon "Trial of the Champion" — the Trial of the Champion is located right on the tournament grounds. The dungeon bosses give additional seals
- Crusader quests — if you have become the champion of all five Alliance capitals and earned the "Crusader" title, additional daily quests with seal rewards unlock
At max level (80 in The War Within), all tournament daily quests and the dungeon can be completed in 15–20 minutes.
How to Reach the Argent Tournament
The tournament grounds are in the northeastern corner of Icecrown — a zone on the continent of Northrend.
- Teleport to Dalaran in Northrend. The portal is available through the portal room in your faction's capital. If there is no portal — ask a mage or use the
Band of the Kirin Tor. - From Dalaran, fly northeast to Icecrown. The landmark is the cluster of bright pavilions and banners on the coast.
- Land at the flight master on the platform and proceed to the Silver Covenant pavilion (Alliance) — Rillie Spindlenut is inside.
How to Reach Exalted with Gnomeregan
If your character is not a gnome, purchasing the mount requires Exalted reputation with the Gnomeregan faction. At max level this is done quickly.
- Gnomeregan Tabard — buy the
Gnomeregan Tabard from the quartermaster in Ironforge or Stormwind. Wear it and run classic dungeons — killing enemies grants reputation with Gnomeregan - Starting zone quests — the gnome territory (Dun Morogh, Frostmane) contains many quests that reward reputation with Gnomeregan
- Tournament daily quests — by competing on behalf of Gnomeregan at the Argent Tournament, you simultaneously gain reputation with this faction
- Gnome alt — a gnome character buys the mount without Exalted. After the purchase, the mount appears for all Alliance characters on the account
Other Mounts from Rillie Spindlenut
Rillie Spindlenut sells one more mount — the
Gnomeregan Mechanostrider for 100 Champion's Seals. This is the basic version with a different color scheme and +60% speed. If you are a collector, it makes sense to grab both mounts: the Turbostrider for 5 seals and 500 gold can be bought immediately, while you will have to save up seals separately for the mechanostrider.
Other Argent Tournament Mounts (Alliance)
While you save up seals and work through the quest chain, take note of the other Alliance racial mounts at the tournament. Each one is sold by its own quartermaster.
Epic Mounts (5 Champion's Seals + 500 gold)
| Mount | Quartermaster | Faction |
|---|---|---|
| Rillie Spindlenut | Gnomeregan | |
| Irisee | Exodar | |
| Darnassus Quartermaster | Darnassus | |
| Ironforge Quartermaster | Ironforge | |
| Stormwind Quartermaster | Stormwind |
Basic Mounts (100 Champion's Seals)
| Mount | Quartermaster | Faction |
|---|---|---|
| Rillie Spindlenut | Gnomeregan | |
| Irisee | Exodar | |
| Darnassus Quartermaster | Darnassus | |
| Ironforge Quartermaster | Ironforge | |
| Stormwind Quartermaster | Stormwind |
If you plan to collect all ten Alliance racial mounts from the tournament, become a Crusader — for this you need to earn the champion title of all five capitals and Exalted reputation with the Silver Vanguard.
Tips
Create a gnome if you lack Exalted — a gnome character does not need reputation with Gnomeregan to make the purchase. If you have a gnome alt with access to the tournament, buy the mount on it and save the time spent farming reputation.
Combine goals — while working toward the Champion of Gnomeregan title, you simultaneously accumulate Champion's Seals. By the time you earn the title, you will most likely have more than 5 seals, and the mount can be bought right away.
Don't forget the second mechanostrider — the
Gnomeregan Mechanostrider for 100 seals costs more, but if you farm the tournament regularly, save up for it too.
At level 80 the quests are trivial — in The War Within all Argent Tournament quests and the dungeon are completed instantly. Icecrown enemies pose no threat, and the mounted battles take one or two minutes. The only limitation is the daily reset of quests.
The "Trial of the Champion" dungeon gives bonus seals — the Trial of the Champion is located right on the tournament grounds and is cleared quickly at max level. Don't skip it on your daily run.
Check the other factions — every Alliance race at the tournament has its own quartermaster with unique mounts. By becoming the champion of several capitals, you unlock access to all the vendors and increase the number of daily quests.
