Turquoise Raptor
Overview

Turquoise Raptor is one of the three common racial troll mounts added in the original World of Warcraft. It is a ground raptor of a bluish-turquoise color with characteristic scaly skin and bright eyes. The item description reads: "Bred from the fiercest specimens. Breeders guarantee they don't bite (well, only sometimes)."
The mount is sold by a single NPC — Zjolnir, a raptor tamer in Sen'jin Village in Durotar. Horde trolls can buy the raptor immediately after learning the riding skill, while members of other Horde races must first reach Exalted reputation with the Darkspear Trolls faction. Despite its age, the mount is still in demand — it is part of the collection for the "Mountacular" achievement and is needed by mount hunters assembling the classic racial sets.
Why You Want This Mount
- Classic racial troll mount — one of the three "common" raptor colors that form the base of the Darkspear collection. Visually it differs from orc wolves, tauren kodos, and elven striders, adding a unique model to your collection.
- Contribution to the mount counter — it counts toward the Leading the Cavalry achievement and beyond.
- Low cost and minimal requirements — the
Apprentice Riding skill and level 10 are enough to use the mount. The vendor price is symbolic for the current expansion. - Part of Zjolnir's full raptor collection — together with the
Whistle of the Emerald Raptor and the
Whistle of the Violet Raptor, you complete the trio of common raptors in a single visit to Sen'jin. - Path to epic raptors — while you gather reputation for the common mounts, you simultaneously unlock access to the fast versions: the
Swift Blue Raptor, the
Swift Olive Raptor, and the
Swift Orange Raptor. - Available account-wide — like all mounts, once obtained by one character, the turquoise raptor appears in the collection of all Horde characters on the account.
Requirements
To purchase and use the
Whistle of the Turquoise Raptor, you will need:
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Faction | Horde only |
| Minimum level | 10 |
| Riding skill | |
| Reputation (for non-trolls) | Exalted with the Darkspear Trolls |
| Reputation (for trolls) | Any (trolls buy their racial mounts without restrictions) |
| Vendor price | ~40 gold base (the amount drops depending on reputation level and the riding skill discount) |
The riding skill is learned from any trainer in the Horde capitals — for example, from Keiran in Orgrimmar. In The War Within, all riding skills unlock automatically upon reaching level 10.
How to Reach Zjolnir
Zjolnir stands by the raptor pen in the southern part of Sen'jin Village in Durotar, right next to the shore. The village lies southeast of Orgrimmar, on the coast of the Great Sea.
The fastest route from Orgrimmar:
- Open the map and select the Orgrimmar flight master
- Take a flight to Sen'jin in Durotar
- After landing, head down to the raptor pen at the southern edge of the village
- Zjolnir's exact coordinates in Durotar:
If the Sen'jin flight point is not yet discovered, fly to Orgrimmar and head south through the Durotar valley on foot or by mount. The road from the Orgrimmar gates to the village takes less than a minute on any ground mount.
How to Farm Darkspear Trolls Reputation
If your character is not a troll, Zjolnir will refuse to sell you raptors with the words: "Sorry, mon, but I won't sell my raptors to anyone who hasn't earned exalted with the Darkspear." To earn reputation, the standard faction-tabard scheme is used.
Step 1. Get the Tabard
The
Darkspear Tabard is sold by the faction quartermaster — Champion Uru'zin. He stands in Orgrimmar near the other Horde quartermasters, on the upper tier ("The Skyway of Orgrimmar") next to the flight master.
The tabard costs a symbolic amount and is sold regardless of your current reputation level.
Step 2. Farm Reputation in Dungeons
Put on the tabard and run dungeons through the dungeon finder or directly. For each mob and boss killed in a dungeon, you earn reputation with the Darkspear. The best options:
- The Botanica in Netherstorm — a classic choice due to the large number of dense mob packs and short clear time.
- Magisters' Terrace on the Isle of Quel'Danas — an alternative with high mob density and fast respawns.
- Any Cataclysm or Pandaria dungeon — works, but reputation comes more slowly due to fewer enemies.
For maximum speed, enter dungeons on Heroic difficulty and reset them through the character menu after each clear. The full path from Neutral to Exalted takes roughly 1-2 hours at level 80 with the tabard.
Step 3. Return to Zjolnir
Once you reach Exalted, return to Sen'jin and buy the
Whistle of the Turquoise Raptor. While you're there, pick up the rest of the raptors from his stock — they all become available at the same time.
Zjolnir's Stock
In a single visit to Zjolnir you can close out six mounts at once, provided you have the gold and the required riding skill level.
| Mount | Type | Riding Skill | Requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common, 60% speed | Exalted (non-trolls) | ||
| Common, 60% speed | Exalted (non-trolls) | ||
| Common, 60% speed | Exalted (non-trolls) | ||
| Epic, 100% speed | Exalted (non-trolls) | ||
| Epic, 100% speed | Exalted (non-trolls) | ||
| Epic, 100% speed | Exalted (non-trolls) |
Note: since the mount system was changed, movement speed is determined by your riding skill, not the item itself. This means that even after buying the "common" turquoise raptor, at maximum riding skill you will ride at standard ground speed.
Collection Tips
- Start with a troll — if you plan to level a troll, you'll get all the racial mounts without farming reputation. Just buy them from Zjolnir for a couple of gold and unlock them for the whole account.
- Combine the farm with other Orgrimmar factions — while wearing the Darkspear Tabard, you can simultaneously complete weekly challenges or collect transmog from the same dungeons. No time is wasted.
- Don't forget all three common raptors — newcomers often buy only one and leave, missing two extra collection entries. Each one's price is symbolic at max level.
- Buy the epic variants later — if you don't have gold for all six mounts at once, take the three common raptors first and purchase the epic versions later. They use the same model but with higher speed.
- Use a Hearthstone — after buying the mounts, the fastest way back to Orgrimmar is via
Hearthstone or through the portal from Sen'jin Village. - Check your collection achievements — after adding the raptors to your collection, check progress on the "Mountacular" achievement series. Each new mount brings you closer to Blizzard's reward mounts for major collection milestones.
- Cross-racial restrictions — the mount remains "racial" only in terms of how it's obtained. After it's added to your collection, all Horde characters on your account can ride it, regardless of race.
