Umbral Spire of Zuraal — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Umbral Spire of Zuraal is a rare two-handed staff added in the Midnight expansion (patch 12.0) alongside the refreshed dungeon rotation of the first season. It is a tall headpiece on a dark shaft, laced with veins of frozen Void energy: the crowning crystal and the trickles running down the staff glow in a cold purple-lilac, while the shaft itself fades into an almost black tone. The silhouette reads as a caster's "magic" staff rather than a monk's combat pole.
By palette and theme this is a typical Void appearance: it references the fall of a captured naaru whose radiant essence was reborn into the Void deep within The Seat of the Triumvirate dungeon. The staff is named after the first boss of that dungeon — Zuraal the Ascended, a Broken twisted by the Void.
The staff is interesting first and foremost as a transmog piece for casters: its stats scale with level and mean nothing for current content — the value lies in the model and the color scheme.
Source
Umbral Spire of Zuraal drops from the first boss of the The Seat of the Triumvirate dungeon — Zuraal the Ascended. In the lore he is the Spectral Guard's first successful experiment: a Broken reborn by the power of the Void yet retaining his sanity. In life he was a renowned fighter, and he carried that might over into his corrupted attacks.
- The source is a boss drop; no separate quest chain or crafting is required.
- The boss opens the dungeon, so you can reach him right after entering without clearing the whole route.
- The dungeon is part of the Mythic+ rotation of Midnight's first season, so the staff is available both through the normal version and through Mythic+.
- This is a caster staff: it goes to specializations with Intellect — mages, warlocks, priests, druids, shamans, monks and evokers.
The dungeon itself is a legacy of the Legion expansion. It is located in the Eredath zone on the ruined planet of Argus. This is the place where a fallen naaru was imprisoned, and where the Void-touched ethereals of the Spectral Guard later gathered, drawn by his energy.
How to get there in Midnight
- The fastest path in the first season is the portal in the capital, Silvermoon: the city's portal hall has an opening to the seasonal dungeons of past expansions.
- The classic route to Argus also works: from Krasus' Landing in Dalaran use the Vindicaar beacon, travel to the Vindicaar, and then use the navigation console to teleport to Eredath.
- In the open world the dungeon entrance is in the western part of Eredath, with the coordinates
/way 22.1 57.4as a landmark.
Who it suits visually
- Looks in dark-purple and lilac tones: the staff echoes the Void and shadow sets of priests and warlocks.
- Sets with a Void and Argus motif — the plate and cloth ensembles from the Eredath dungeons match it in color and lore.
- Contrasting light looks: the purple glow of the headpiece stands out brightly against white and gold armor, lending a "dark artifact" accent in the hands of a radiant hero.
- Concepts of necromancers, Void cultists and shadow casters: the cold glow and the near-black shaft support this theme better than fiery or nature staves.
Tips
Enter the dungeon on normal difficulty for the transmog — on low difficulty the first boss falls quickly, and clearing the full route is not needed.
The appearance is bound to your transmog collection the moment you receive it, so a single drop per account is enough.
Farming is easier on a class with its own movement and good single-target damage — the path to Zuraal the Ascended is short, and a quick rush to the boss saves time.
If the staff does not drop, repeat the run: there is no limit on the number of attempts in the normal version, and you can enter many times in a row.
Alongside the staff, the dungeon's bosses also drop other Argus appearances — in a single run you can collect several transmog items at once.
For the collection any quality and item level will do: stats do not affect the look, only the unlocked model matters.
Keep this staff paired with dark cloth or Void armor — in neutral looks its purple glow appears out of place.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
