Overview

Vendetta

Game iconVendetta is a rare-quality one-handed dagger that appeared in World of Warcraft back in the original game and is tied to the dungeon of the Razorfen quilboar. It is a short blade with the "bandit" aesthetic typical of early daggers: a thin edge with a wavy spine and a simple twisted hilt without ornate decorations. The look stays within a cold grey-steel palette with a faint blue tint and conveys well the mood of the mercenaries and rogues of classic Azeroth.

In terms of stats, the dagger is a light one-handed weapon for specializations that rely on agility. The item carries bonuses to agility and critical strike rating, and its attack speed of 1.80 is typical of daggers from this period. On modern servers the item level is 83 and the required character level is 26; for transmogrification these numbers do not matter — what counts is the model itself.

The dagger has a bind-on-equip binding type, so it freely passes between characters on a single account and can even be put up on the auction house. This is handy if you run the dungeon on one character but collect the appearance on another. It suits the looks of rogues, scouts, and mercenaries of the early expansions — especially together with leather sets in grey and dark-blue tones.

Source

Vendetta is obtained in the classic dungeon Razorfen Kraul — a small instanced location on Horde territory, in the Southern Barrens, intended for characters of levels 10–30. In lore it is a sacred place for the quilboar, grown from the blood of the demigod Agamaggan.

The item drops from several inhabitants of the dungeon — from bosses as well as from ordinary quilboar guards. All of the sources are united by their membership in the Razorfen tribe, so when clearing the dungeon there is a chance at the appearance at several stages:

  • Charlga Razorflank — the dungeon's final boss, a witch of the Razorfen tribe. She stands by the altar at the very end of the instance.
  • Overlord Ramtusk — one of the bosses along the route, an elite quilboar humanoid.
  • Razorfen Stalker — elite trackers encountered along the way through the dungeon.
  • Razorfen Warden — elite guards on the early floors of the dungeon.

The specific drop chance is small — this is a typical "blue" item from a vanilla dungeon, so the dagger drops rarely in a single run. On the other hand, the number of "right" targets in the instance is high: in one pass you kill a dozen and a half elite quilboar, each of which has a chance to drop Vendetta.

The dungeon has no hard limit on repeat runs: you can reset the instance many times, bumping only into the overall daily limit on instance changes per account. At max level the dungeon is cleared solo in literally a few minutes, so short sessions of 4–6 runs are usually enough to see several "blue" drops in a row.

Getting into the dungeon requires no quest chains, reputation, or story access — it is enough to fly to the entrance and step inside. At max level the appearance is most conveniently farmed solo: the automatic group finder for such old dungeons hardly finds anyone.

Alternatives

Vendetta has no color recolors with separate item IDs — it is a standalone appearance from the set of simple daggers of the classic game. Among the analogues confirmed on Wowhead, the very same model is also used in one more dagger of the same period with identical stats:

Appearance Source Wowhead
Game iconAssassin's Blade Low-level loot of the classic era Game iconAssassin's Blade

The Assassin's Blade repeats the silhouette of Vendetta and is used as a backup option if dungeon farming drags on. Besides this option, keep an eye on daggers with a similar model from the family of simple blades — a thin edge, a twisted hilt, a grey-steel palette — they often drop as world loot in the classic zones of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

Who it suits visually

  • It fits classic roguish looks: the grey-steel blade harmonizes with leather sets in dark and dirty-brown tones.
  • It is fitting for "mercenary" and "street scout" concepts — the appearance does not pull attention and works well as a secondary element of a build.
  • It harmonizes with a cold armor palette: silvery-steel and dark-blue plate and mail sets support the dagger's color scheme.
  • It suits dual-wielding for rogues: two identical daggers of this silhouette assemble a cohesive melee-fighter look without an overload of details.
  • It contrasts with heavy plate armor in bright colors — a debatable but workable option for "rough" warrior builds with light weapons.

Tips

1

Enter the dungeon at max level solo: at level 90 clearing Razorfen Kraul takes 5–10 minutes, so in an hour you can do many cycles.

2

Cycle the dungeon by manually exiting and resetting the instance: after a reset all mobs and bosses respawn, which means the chances at Vendetta reappear as well.

3

Remember the daily limit on instance changes: if you plan a long farm, split the runs into several sessions or alternate them with other old dungeons.

4

The "juiciest" targets by drop are the final bosses Charlga Razorflank and Overlord Ramtusk, but do not skip elite mobs like the Razorfen Stalker — the appearance drops from ordinary quilboar too.

5

It is most convenient to farm on classes with fast movement and strong area damage: rogue, demon hunter, druid, and mage run through the dungeon practically on the move.

6

The appearance unlocks in the transmogrification collection as soon as the item ends up in the inventory of any character on the account — the farming can be done on a convenient alt.

7

The bind-on-equip type lets you check the auction house: sometimes other players' Vendettas are put up for sale for a moderate amount of gold, and that is faster than a long farm.

8

Alongside Vendetta, the dungeon yields a decent stock of grey and green loot to sell, so the farm pays off even without the appearance dropping.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
