Get Wodin's Mantid Shanker

Wodin's Mantid Shanker is a one-handed dagger of rare quality, added to World of Warcraft with the Mists of Pandaria expansion. It is a short blade with a jagged edge that looks like a makeshift weapon against the mantid: a crude grip and a predatory silhouette nicely convey the theme of border skirmishes in northern Pandaria.

The dagger is account-bound, so you can mail it to any character and unlock its appearance for transmogrification. Its item level is low, just 15, and it requires character level 32 to use, but for appearance collectors that is no obstacle: the look unlocks in the wardrobe as soon as you obtain it.

The shanker's main value lies not in its stats but in its status. It is one of the lost treasures of Pandaria: items hidden across the continent back in the days of Mists of Pandaria. Collecting them counts toward four exploration achievements at once, and Wodin's shanker is a convenient checkmark on that list.

The shanker does not drop from bosses and is not sold by vendors: it is a treasure object out in the open world. You can find it in The Jade Forest, along the northernmost coast of the zone, on a rise with Owen's wishing well.

How to claim the treasure:

• Make your way to the point 39.4, 7.3 in the northern part of The Jade Forest.
• Find a small stone well-fountain — the shanker lies right in the water at its bottom.
• Click the glowing item in the water to pick it up into your bag.
• The item is account-bound, so the appearance is later available to all of your characters.

The treasure is a rare object with a long respawn time. If it is not there, that means another player has already picked it up: there is a single spawn point, and its restoration can take anywhere from an hour to several hours. After the game servers restart, the treasure spawns anew, so the morning hours are a good time to check.

The easiest way to reach The Jade Forest is through the portal in your faction's capital: the forest is Pandaria's starting zone, and the spawn point is located not far from the northern coast. For a low-level character, the shanker can be sent by mail from a leveled alt.

• It works for rogue or undead-hunter looks with an emphasis on makeshift, "field" weaponry — the blade's crude finish reads as a trophy from the battlefield.
• It harmonizes with leather sets in earthy and green tones from Pandaria's zones — for example, with The Jade Forest's starting gear.
• It pairs with other pandaren-themed items: the dagger looks great alongside a second blade from the same expansion for a rogue's dual-wield style.
• It contrasts with formal gilded sets — the shanker deliberately looks plain, so it belongs in "travel" looks rather than ceremonial ones.
