About the Class

This guide is based on the World of Warcraft: Forever beta and covers gameplay up to level 20. The talents and combat tips are starting recommendations built on the spells and talents available in the beta. They will be refined as testing continues.

The Fire Mage is a pyromaniac who sets fire to anything that didn't take cover in time. Unlike Arcane and Frost, this talent tree relies not only on direct damage but also on combining it with damage over time: the key talent Game iconIgnite and the heavy-hitting Game iconPyroblast burn down a single target quickly, while Game iconFlamestrike and Game iconBlast Wave take groups apart.

The playstyle revolves around critical strikes and consistently high damage.

Strengths

Weaknesses

  • Your damage depends heavily on critical strikes, and gear at low levels is stingy with crit.
  • Cloth armor and low Health — pulling mistakes are punished immediately.
  • Key talents like Heat Wave and Ignite Mind are not available yet at level 20, so the rotation is cut down.
  • Area damage requires care: pulling many enemies at low levels is dangerous.

Stat Priority

Mage Fire Stats Priority
  1. 1Hit
  2. 2Spell Power
  3. 3Spirit
  4. 4Intellect
  5. 5Critical Strike
  6. 6Stamina

There is no specific gear for level 20 yet: the beta is at an early stage, and items will be added later.

Talent Notes

  • Wake of Fire 2/2 — reduces the cooldown of Game iconFire Blast, and killing a significant target grants an additional effect.
  • Game iconImproved Fireball 5/5 — reduces the cast time of Game iconFireball.
  • Game iconIgnite 3/5 — critical strikes with Fire spells set the target ablaze.
  • Game iconPyroblast 1/1 — unlocks a heavy-hitting spell for opening the fight.

Ability Priority

Abilities Priority

At low levels, make heavy use of your wand: it has high damage per second and costs no Mana.

Best in Slot (BiS)

There is no BiS list in the beta: the test is at an early stage, and level 20 gear will be added later. For now, pick items with a sensible mix of stats rather than ones skewed toward a single stat.

Enchants, Gems, Consumables

Consumables
Keep your personal buffs up and don't forget about scrolls, elixirs, buff food, and profession buffs. A specific list for the beta has not been determined yet.

Best Professions

Engineering

Almost always the best choice: cloaking devices, target dummies, explosives — all of it adds both survivability and damage.

Tailoring

The second most useful option: the cloth you are collecting anyway turns into armor, and at high levels the profession provides very powerful items.
