WoW Forever Holy Priest — Guide (Beta Test)
About the Class
This guide is based on the World of Warcraft: Forever beta and covers gameplay up to level 20. The talents and combat tips are starting recommendations built on the spells and talents available in the beta. They will be refined as testing continues.
The Holy Priest is a classic reactive healer, the embodiment of a servant of the Light. Their faith shows in their power to heal, cleanse, and protect: when an ally is wounded, it's the Holy Priest who gets them back into the fight.
In Forever, the specialization gained new tools for multi-target healing: Binding Heal heals the Priest and an ally at the same time, while Prayer of Mending jumps between group members.
Strengths
- The classic healer toolkit: direct and periodic healing.
- The new Forever spells boost multi-target healing.
- Strong group support: buffs,
Cure Disease, and
Dispel Magic.
Power Word: Shield buys time for a cast when damage suddenly spikes.
Weaknesses
- Mana management is the key skill: Mana runs out fast in long fights.
- Most of the new tools unlock after level 20.
- Healing in the beta comes down to a few buttons.
- Solo damage is modest, and you end up finishing enemies off with your wand a lot.
Stat Priority
- 1Healing Power
- 2Mana per 5
- 3Spirit
- 4Intellect
Talents
Talent Notes
Wand Specialization 2/5 — more damage for the wand you finish enemies off with.
Twilight Focus 2/2 — a chance to avoid being interrupted by damage while casting spells.
Improved Renew 2/3 — strengthens
Renew.
Spirit Tap 5/5 — Mana regeneration after a kill, the main talent for leveling.
Ability Priority
If you are playing solo, or there is no one to heal in your group yet:
- Before combat, keep
Power Word: Fortitude and
Inner Fire up on yourself - Right before the fight starts, put
Power Word: Shield on yourself or on the tank
Smite while the enemy closes in
Mind Blast
Shadow Word: Pain- Finish the enemy off with your wand
It's better to finish enemies off with your wand than with
Smite or
Mind Blast: Mana management is the Priest's most important skill. Feel free to break from the rotation if you need to save yourself or an ally.
Important Abilities
Best in Slot (BiS)
There is no BiS list for the beta yet. Grab the highest-level gear available with Healing Power, Mana per 5, Spirit, and Intellect.
Enchants, Gems, Consumables
Best Race
The best Priest racial abilities on the Alliance side. Confounding Flash is excellent AoE crowd control: it confuses up to five enemies, and the effect breaks on damage. The real star is Contingency Plan, which gives an ally a second chance at life.
Undead have more tools for Mana and self-sustain than Trolls. Cannibalize and Dark Sacrifice are new options that help you manage Mana.
Best Professions
The traditional Priest choice: Tailoring provides cloth armor, while Enchanting lets you enchant your gear and disenchant the pieces you don't need. The two professions don't compete for materials.
If you need potions and elixirs.
Whichever you choose, it's worth picking up Cooking, Fishing, and First Aid.
