Overview

Wushoolay's Poker

Game iconWushoolay's Poker is a rare one-handed dagger worn in the main hand. It is a short, straight blade with a massive hilt in the spirit of rough-hewn troll smithing: the weapon looks more like a sharpened rod than an elegant blade, which is exactly what its name plays on.

The dagger arrived in World of Warcraft with patch 1.11.1 — the very update that added the Zul'Gurub raid. Originally it was a healer's item: the classic version granted a bonus to healing power and mana regeneration. In the modern game the item remains a rare low-level piece, and in a transmogrification collection its model is valued above all for its terse, "savage" silhouette.

The dagger's main quirk is its unavailability. The item's source was closed off along with the rework of Zul'Gurub in the Cataclysm expansion, so in the modern World of Warcraft you can no longer add this appearance to your collection. It can only be unlocked on WoW Classic servers, where the old raid still operates.

Source

Wushoolay's Poker drops from Wushoolay — a troll spirit boss summoned as part of the Edge of Madness event inside the Zul'Gurub raid.

How obtaining it works:

  • The Edge of Madness is a separate area in the raid with a brazier, at which four spirit bosses appear in turn: Gri'lek, Renataki, Hazza'rah, and Wushoolay.
  • To summon a boss, you need to extinguish the brazier with Game iconGurubashi Mojo Madness. It is crafted by an alchemist, and the recipe is tied to reputation with the Zandalar tribe.
  • Which of the four bosses appears depends on a two-week rotation. You need to wait for Wushoolay's week — the other three bosses do not drop the dagger.
  • The fight with Wushoolay is simple: he casts chain lightning and a thunderstorm cloud, both abilities easily avoided by moving. It is a single-stage encounter with no phases.
  • The dagger's drop chance from Wushoolay in the classic version is around 25%.

Mind the key limitation: after patch 4.0.3 the classic Zul'Gurub raid was removed from the game, and with it vanished the source of this appearance for the modern World of Warcraft. You can unlock the look for your transmogrification collection only on live WoW Classic servers, while the corresponding content phase is available there.

Visual fit

  • The dagger fits well into a savage or undead-hunter image: the rough, short blade pairs with leather and bone armor sets.
  • It suits troll and shaman stylizations — the weapon is thematically tied to the culture of the Gurubashi tribe.
  • The terse, dark silhouette without glow or effects looks good in sets with a muted, earthy palette — browns, grays, and swampy greens.
  • It looks striking paired with bright ceremonial armor — the deliberately "dirty" weapon creates the effect of a seasoned adventurer.
  • A good choice for a rogue or druid who needs an unobtrusive secondary dagger that does not draw attention to itself.

Tips

1

Before heading in, check which boss is active at the Edge of Madness: the rotation changes once every two weeks, and Wushoolay's week does not always come up. A hint is given by the inscription on the plaques around the perimeter of the area inside the raid.

2

Stock up on Gurubashi Mojo Madness ahead of time — without it you cannot extinguish the brazier or summon the boss. If there is no alchemist in the group, arrange for the reagent in advance.

3

During the fight with Wushoolay, keep the boss facing away from the group: that way chain lightning will not jump across the whole raid. Simply step out of the thunderstorm cloud when it appears.

4

In a single run you should pick up all three items from Wushoolay at once — the dagger, the bow, and Wushoolay's Mane — so as not to repeat the summon for another chance.

5

A chance of around 25% means that on average the dagger drops over several Wushoolay weeks in a row — budget for several attempts.

6

On modern World of Warcraft servers this appearance is unavailable — do not waste time looking for the source there. You need to unlock the look on live WoW Classic servers.

7

The old Zul'Gurub raid has long been cleared by a small group or solo at high level, so the difficulty of the fight will not be a problem — the main challenge is only in waiting for the right rotation week.
