TBC Classic Alchemy Profession Guide (Phase 3)
Why take Alchemy?
Alchemy is a consumables profession. Flasks, elixirs and potions get burned through in a single raid night, so demand for them never drops: every week guilds restock them all over again.
The alchemist's main personal perk is specializations. By picking one of the three branches, you have a chance to get extra portions when brewing, and over time that turns into free goods. On top of that, alchemists have access to unique stones (the Void Stone and its counterparts) that can't be bought or looted.
The most logical pairing is Alchemy with Herbalism: that way you gather all the raw materials yourself and the profit stays entirely with you. If you don't have Herbalism, you'll have to buy herbs at the auction house — it's still profitable, but the margin is noticeably lower.
Where to learn Alchemy?
The tiers up to 300 skill are learned in the capital cities, and the master rank (300-375) is learned in Outland.
Horde
Yelmak — Orgrimmar

Camberon — Silvermoon

Alliance
Tally Berryfizz — Ironforge

Lilyssia Nightbreeze — Stormwind

Lucc — Exodar

Masters in Outland (300-375)
Apothecary Antonivich — Thrallmar, Hellfire Peninsula

Alchemist Gribble — Honor Hold, Hellfire Peninsula

In Shattrath, Alchemy Mastery is taught by Lorokeem — he's available to both factions, in case reaching the Hellfire capitals is inconvenient for you.
What you'll need for leveling
Below is the combined list of materials for the entire journey. Some recipes stay yellow across certain stretches, so add a 10-20% buffer to each entry, especially for herbs.
For leveling from 1 to 300:
Peacebloom65x
Silverleaf65x
Briarthorn100x
Bruiseweed35x
Mageroyal20x

Vials are worth buying in advance and in bulk: they're sold by reagent vendors, but during leveling you're always short on them, and running back for more every twenty skill points is tiresome.
Once the materials are gathered, you can get started on leveling:

The final stretch is the longest and most boring one, but the Major Dreamless Sleep Potion sells steadily: it's a cheap way to remove damage from bleeds and poisons.
Once you reach 375, pick a specialization right away — the quests for them start in Outland and pay for themselves in literally a couple of weeks of brewing.
What to do after 375
An alchemist's main income comes from flasks and elixirs on raid days. Sell them in stacks the evening before the raid reset: that's exactly when the price stays at its highest.
Transmutation is a topic of its own. Primal substances and turning Primordium into rare stones bring in noticeable profit, but most transmutes share a common cooldown, so run them every day, even if you weren't planning to sit down for a long session.
And don't forget about your specialization: a master of potions, elixirs or flasks will occasionally get extra portions from a single brew. At the volumes an alchemist pushes through over an expansion, that's the most noticeable boost to your income.
