Assassin's Blade — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Assassin's Blade is a one-handed dagger of rare quality, added to World of Warcraft all the way back in the classic version of the game. It is a short, neat blade with a dark-steel tint and a simple wrapped grip — a quintessential "roguish" silhouette with no glow or magical effects. In appearance the weapon resembles the rogue daggers of the earliest expansions and fits perfectly into the looks of hired assassins, city thieves and spies of the Eastern Kingdoms.
Historically this dagger was an iconic item for rogues: in the early classic era it was farmed specifically onto a twink character to secure one of the strongest weapons in its category. Today the hunt for the appearance is a calm solo run through an old dungeon, with no need to assemble a group or complete quest chains.
Source
Assassin's Blade drops from Arugal's worgen in Silverpine Forest and in Shadowfang Keep. It is a random rare drop with a very low chance, so the farm is built around repeated runs.
- The main carrier of the appearance is the Son of Arugal, an elite worgen humanoid that patrols the area around the dungeon and is also encountered in its halls.
- In the Silverpine Forest zone, the Sons of Arugal roam the roads on the approaches to the keep — the dagger can be caught right out in the open world, without entering the instance.
- Inside the Shadowfang Keep dungeon, these same worgen stand on the stairs and in the corridors leading to the final stretch of the route.
- The dagger also drops with a small chance from other mobs in the keep, so when farming the appearance every undead and worgen along the route counts, not one specific boss.
- The dungeon can be reset and re-run without harsh restrictions: a max-level character is subject to the general limit of five instances per hour, but for a single goal that is usually more than enough.
- No group is required — at the current max level, Shadowfang Keep is cleared solo by any class without any combat trouble.
Getting to the dungeon is simple: the entrance sits on the southern slopes of Silverpine Forest, there are no portals or locked doors in the zone, and no preparatory quests are required. The Horde reaches it via Tirisfal Glades and the Undercity, the Alliance via Hillsbrad and Southshore.
Alternatives
Assassin's Blade has no color recolors with separate item identifiers: the model is unique to the classic era. If you need a short, dark blade with a similar silhouette and no magical effects, take a look at the proven options below.
| Name | Source |
|---|---|
| Meteor Shard | Drops from Lord Godfrey in Shadowfang Keep |
| Frostbite | Drops from Amnennar the Coldbringer in the Razorfen Downs dungeon |
| Heartseeker | Random drop from low-level mobs and chests |
If you specifically want this silhouette and color scheme, you should farm the Assassin's Blade itself: no other item has the exact same model.
Who it suits visually
- It fits classic-style rogue looks — a restrained dark blade with no glow does not distract from the rest of the set.
- It harmonizes with dark leather armor and cloth cloaks in gray-black and dark-brown tones — for example, with old thieving sets from the dungeons of the Eastern Kingdoms.
- It looks great paired with an identical dagger in both hands on a rogue — two matching slim blades create a cohesive "street" assassin silhouette.
- It is appropriate for concepts of hired killers and Undercity spies — the model directly references the era of the early Silverpine Forest dungeons.
- It contrasts with bright plate armor and large two-handed weapons — a debatable but expressive combination for "hidden blade beneath the armor" looks.
Tips
The most predictable route is short runs through Shadowfang Keep, in which you kill all the undead and worgen on the way and reset the instance to go in again.
In the open world it is convenient to check the patrols of the Sons of Arugal along the road between the Olsen's Farthing area and the approaches to the keep — along the way you can also farm other rare mobs of Silverpine Forest.
The optimal farming classes are those with fast movement and strong area damage: druid, monk, hunter, paladin and mage clear the dungeon corridors in mere minutes.
The appearance unlocks in the transmogrification collection as soon as the item lands in the bag of any character on the account, so the farm can comfortably be run on a convenient alt.
Note that the dagger "binds when equipped": if it dropped on the wrong character, it can be sent through the bank or sold at auction as long as no one has equipped it.
The drop chance is very low — plan for dozens of dungeon runs and do not count on luck the first time around.
It is convenient to split the farm into short sessions of several re-runs rather than turning it into one long marathon: the dungeon is small, and quick attempts accumulate more naturally.
Along the route you can also collect other classic appearances from Shadowfang Keep, so the farm pays off with extra items even without the dagger itself dropping.
