Overview

Avool's Incendiary Shanker

Game iconAvool's Incendiary Shanker is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft in patch 4.2 of the Cataclysm expansion alongside the Firelands raid. It is an agility dagger: its main stats are agility, stamina, haste and critical strike rating, so in the current game it is mainly of interest to rogues and hunters as a transmog appearance.

The model belongs to the Firelands raid weapon set: a short, curved blade of dark metal with smoldering veins and an orange-red glow along the edge. The hilt is wrapped and ends in a small pommel — the blade looks as if it has just been drawn from the forge. It is one of the two "fiery" daggers in the raid's section: the other model of the same family is the Game iconEntrail Disgorger, which has a wider blade.

There are several variants of this dagger in the raid: the normal version is "Avool's Incendiary Shanker", while the heroic one carries a separate name, the Game iconAvool's Incendiary Shanker. Visually both versions are identical and grant the same appearance for the transmogrification collection.

Source

The dagger drops in the Firelands raid from the boss Lord Rhyolith — a giant elemental of stone and lava. It is the second of the raid's seven bosses.

  • Difficulty: the normal version of the item drops from Lord Rhyolith on normal raid difficulty (10 and 25 players).
  • Heroic mode grants a separate item — the heroic Avool's Incendiary Shanker with the same appearance.
  • The drop chance from the boss is low — around 1–2 % per kill, since Lord Rhyolith shares his loot table with several items of different types.
  • The raid can be cleared solo: a character at the current level easily kills all Firelands bosses on their own.
  • The Firelands are tied to the weekly reset — you can get loot from Lord Rhyolith once a week per difficulty.

To reach the raid, head to the Mount Hyjal zone. The entrance to the Firelands is located at the foot of the Sulfuron Spire in the southern part of the zone, next to the large fiery portal. The fastest way is through the portal to Mount Hyjal from the capital — Stormwind or Orgrimmar.

Who it suits visually

  • It harmonizes with the rogue tier 12 set from the Firelands: both the dagger and the armor are built on an orange-black palette with fiery accents.
  • It suits fiery and demonic looks — it pairs with armor that has smoldering or lava elements.
  • It contrasts nicely with dark leather sets in black and charcoal tones: the glowing edge of the blade becomes the only bright accent.
  • It works well together with the Game iconEntrail Disgorger — two daggers of the same family create a cohesive raid look.
  • A debatable but striking choice for cold blue-white sets: the warm glow of the blade sharply breaks out of the palette and draws the eye.

Tips

1

The Firelands can be cleared solo entirely on any class at the current level — no separate group for farming is needed.

2

Lord Rhyolith is the second boss of the raid, only a couple of minutes from the entrance, so the run for this dagger is very short.

3

In a single run you can only get one item from the boss's loot table, and the dagger shares it with armor and other weapons — be prepared for several weeks of farming.

4

Old raid weapons follow the rules of legacy loot: the larger the gap between the character's level and the raid, the higher the chance of getting an actual equipment item rather than gold.

5

The same visual style is covered by the Entrail Disgorger from the same boss — while farming the dagger, you also pick up the set's second model along the way.

6

The raid resets once a week, so plan the run together with your other weekly Firelands chores, for example farming the mount from Alysrazor.

7

The dagger you receive is bound to the character, but the appearance is added to the shared transmogrification collection and becomes available to all account characters of the right class.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
