Avool's Incendiary Shanker — Transmog Set Guide

Overview

Avool's Incendiary Shanker is an epic one-handed dagger from the Firelands raid. It is a short blade in the signature style of Ragnaros's lair: a dark edge laced with cracks that ooze an orange-scarlet glow, as if the steel were heated in a stream of lava and never allowed to cool. The serrated cutting edge and charred grip give the model an aggressive, "fiery" look — the dagger appears to be a shard of the flaming realm itself.

The model belongs to the set of Firelands daggers from the Cataclysm expansion (patch 4.2). The specific item with ID 173277 is the Timewalking version: when the "Firelands" Timewalking event is active, the dagger drops from bosses already scaled to the group's level. Its appearance fully matches the normal and heroic raid versions, so for the appearance collection the difference between the items comes down to stat numbers alone — the look is the same.

The dagger suits rogues, druids, shamans, mages, warlocks, priests, demon hunters, and warriors — anyone who can wield daggers. By its silhouette it is a compact, light weapon, so within a transmog set it reads as a melee dagger or a paired blade.

Source

The appearance is obtained in the Firelands raid — a raid dungeon on the slopes of Mount Hyjal, where the titans once banished Ragnaros.

  • The dagger is part of the raid's shared loot pool: it is not tied to a specific boss and can drop from several enemies in the first half of the dungeon.
  • Among the confirmed sources are Shannox, Lord Rhyolith, and Beth'tilac.
  • Item version 173277 drops during the "Firelands" Timewalking event: the raid scales to the group's level, and bosses hand out loot of the corresponding level.
  • The heroic version of the appearance — Avool's Incendiary Shanker — drops in the normal raid from bosses on heroic difficulty.
  • The normal version of the appearance — Avool's Incendiary Shanker — drops from the same bosses on normal difficulty.
  • The drop chance is low: the dagger shares its loot table with other items, so it does not appear on every run.
  • A modern character has no limit on the number of attempts — the raid can be re-entered daily to farm the appearance.

The Firelands has long since become solo content: a current-level character clears the entire raid alone in a few minutes, so farming the appearance does not require a group.

Who it suits visually

  • It harmonizes with fiery Cataclysm-era sets — for example, the rogue's tier 12 from the Firelands, kept in a black-and-orange palette.
  • It suits armor with lava and ember textures: dark plate with smoldering veins reinforces the blade's glow.
  • It pairs with fire-element themed looks — shaman, warlock, and fire mage sets dominated by red and orange.
  • It stands out against light or white cloth: the bright blade becomes the single color accent — a debatable but memorable choice.
  • It works well as a pair: two such daggers on a rogue or demon hunter read as a cohesive "fiery" set.

Tips

1

The most convenient way to get version 173277 is to wait for the "Firelands" Timewalking event week and enter the raid via Group Finder or solo.

2

Outside the event, collect the appearance in the normal Firelands raid: switch the difficulty to heroic so bosses can hand out the heroic variant of the dagger.

3

The appearance is shared across all versions of the item, so it is enough to obtain any one — normal, heroic, or Timewalking — to unlock it in the collection.

4

Enter the raid every day: the loot is shared, and a single run can drop several daggers from the set off different bosses.

5

For quick farming, take a mobile melee character — a solo clear of the Firelands at current level takes mere minutes.

6

Alongside the dagger, check the raid's mount drops: bosses have a chance for fiery mounts, so farming the appearance combines with hunting for mounts.

7

If you collect all of Hyjal's fiery daggers, farm the raid until the set is complete — models 71786, 71013, and 71560 round out the look.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
