Overview

Belo'melorn, the Shattered Talon

Belo'melorn, the Shattered Talon is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with the Midnight expansion (patch 12.0.1). It is a Season 1 Midnight raid weapon: the dagger carries Intellect, Stamina, Haste and Mastery, which makes it a solid combat item for spellcasters, while its model is a separate goal for transmog collectors.

Visually the dagger leans into the fiery, phoenix-themed aesthetic of the raid. The dark blade looks lit from within by living flame, the guard is forged in the shape of a cracked bird's talon, and the hilt is tightly wrapped in dark silk. The model is built on the shared Midnight Season 1 raid weapon template — the same silhouette is used by other daggers of the season — but it is Belo'melorn that received the crimson fiery glow that nods to the phoenix.

The dagger's name is assembled from Thalassian roots. "Belore" means "sun", while the "-melorn" part is borrowed from the legendary blade Felo'melorn — the ancestral sword of the Sunstriders, whose name translates as "flamestrike". Read this way, the new dagger's name comes together as "sunstrike", which ties it directly to the line of Kael'thas and to the phoenix Al'ar, whose descendant is the boss that drops this item.

As of spring 2026, Belo'melorn, the Shattered Talon remains a notable transmog dagger of the season. The appearance is collected by shamans, druids, priests, mages, warlocks and evokers — every class whose specializations can wield a dagger. For most of them the item is useful both as a genuine weapon during the first weeks of Midnight Season 1 and as a "dress" appearance after a gear swap.

Source

The dagger drops from Belo'ren — the first of the two bosses in the March on Quel'Danas raid. This is one of the three Season 1 Midnight raids alongside the Spire of the Abyss and the Rift of Dreams. Normal, Heroic and Mythic difficulties opened on March 31, 2026, while Raid Finder and Story mode became available on April 7, 2026.

The raid is located on the Isle of Quel'Danas, north of Silvermoon. The entrance sits by the Sunwell, in the northern part of the isle:

/way Isle of Quel'Danas 53 85 March on Quel'Danas entrance

The easiest way to get there is to fly north out of Silvermoon: cross the bay and follow the coastline up to the structures that mark the entrance to the raid instance. If your character has the seasonal portal from Silvermoon unlocked, it makes sense to use it.

Requirements and Difficulties

  • Minimum character level — 90. The content is current, with no level scaling down.
  • Queuing for Raid Finder requires an average item level of 220.
  • Loot from the bosses binds to the character on pickup.
  • Each week you can receive loot from the raid bosses once per difficulty per character.
  • The same boss drops the dagger Belo'ren's Swift Talon — an Agility variant for rogues and other classes with that primary stat.

The item level of Belo'melorn, the Shattered Talon depends on the chosen difficulty:

Difficulty Item Level
Raid Finder 240
Normal 253
Heroic 266
Mythic 279

Beyond that, the item level is raised with seasonal upgrade currencies — a fully upgraded dagger reaches 289.

The Belo'ren Encounter

Belo'ren is a phoenix raised to defend the Isle of Quel'Danas and the Sunwell, struck by the energy of the Void during an assault on the shrine. The fight revolves around two polarities — Light and Void. At the start of the encounter every player receives either a light or a dark feather: it halves the damage from abilities of the matching color, and only players whose feather matches the color of an effect are allowed to soak that mechanic.

In the first phase the phoenix summons rolling orbs and embers of Light and Void, which must be intercepted by players with the matching feather, while the tank turns the cone attacks so they are taken by fighters of the correct color. When the boss's health hits zero, the "ashen shell" phase begins: Belo'ren hides in an egg and tries to be reborn, and the raid must extinguish its flame before the transformation completes. It pays to save Bloodlust and major cooldowns for that window.

You do not need to run Heroic or Mythic just to collect the transmog. Raid Finder awards the same item with the same appearance, and the model itself unlocks in the Wardrobe tab after the first acquisition and becomes available to all suitable characters on the account.

Alternatives

Belo'melorn shares its model and theme with other daggers of the first Midnight season. If you are building the "phoenix" series or looking for a close silhouette for a different primary stat, take a look at the following items.

Dagger Source Theme
Belo'melorn, the Shattered Talon Belo'ren, March on Quel'Danas Dark blade with a crimson fiery glow, Intellect
Belo'ren's Swift Talon Belo'ren, March on Quel'Danas Same silhouette, Agility variant for rogues
Hungering Victory Spire of the Abyss, Midnight Season 1 Close model with a cold Void glow, Agility
Felo'melorn Fire Mage artifact blade, Legion Kael'thas's fiery two-handed sword — the lore forerunner of Belo'melorn

Belo'ren's Swift Talon is the closest counterpart: it drops from the same boss, so a spellcaster and an Agility character do not have to run different raids. Hungering Victory uses a related seasonal raid weapon template but in the cold color palette of the Void — pick it if you want a "shadow" version of the silhouette instead of the fiery one. Felo'melorn is no longer a current item but a Legion Mage artifact weapon, yet it is its name and image that inspired Belo'melorn.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Fits nicely into light, themed Silvermoon and Sunstrider outfits — gold, green silk, bronze. The fiery glow of the blade echoes Al'ar's phoenix aesthetic.
  • Pairs with Midnight Season 1 spellcaster transmog sets, especially models that feature crimson and purple elements.
  • Looks great on evokers and shamans who use a dagger as a one-handed weapon — the blade reads well even amid dense combat animations.
  • Contrasts with dark leather gear in a shadow palette: a fiery dagger paired with such a set creates a strong visual dissonance for a "dual-natured" character concept.
  • A paired two-polarity concept comes together if you wield Belo'melorn in one hand and Hungering Victory in the other: shared base, different glow color — a direct nod to the Belo'ren fight itself.

Tips

1

Run the raid weekly on whichever difficulty is comfortable for your group. Loot resets every game Tuesday, so attempts stack up week over week.

2

If your only goal is the appearance, start with Raid Finder: it awards the same item and unlocks the model in the wardrobe, so there is no need to jump straight to Mythic for the transmog.

3

Don't forget the Great Vault. For your raid activity each week you receive an extra item choice, and Belo'melorn can drop from there.

4

On the Heroic and Mythic tracks, bank seasonal upgrade currencies to raise the dagger's item level all the way to 289 toward the end of the season.

5

If you also need an Agility dagger on a rogue, knock out Belo'ren's Swift Talon through the same raid — both daggers drop from Belo'ren and count toward the same weekly limit.

6

Unlock the appearance right away. Even if the dagger is weaker than your main weapon, equip it for at least a second — the model lands in the wardrobe and stays available on any future dagger for the character.

7

For classes that lack the right primary stat on this item, the dagger is still useful as a "dress" weapon for cities and story quests — the appearance toggles on without having to keep the item equipped all the time.

8

If you are collecting the "phoenix" lore line of the Sunstriders, set Belo'melorn in one outfit with the inv_misc_summerfest_brazierorangeAshes of Al'ar mount from Tempest Keep — it is the most recognizable phoenix pair in the game.
