Overview

Blackvenom Blade

Game iconBlackvenom Blade is a one-handed dagger of rare quality originating from the classic version of World of Warcraft. It is a short blade with a dark, narrow edge and a distinctive poisonous-green sheen that echoes the natural poison effect placed on the weapon. The model belongs to the early "short-blade" daggers — a compact shape, a narrow guard, and a modest hilt without ornate decoration.

By game standards the item is long outdated: its item level is low, and the agility bonus and the "9 nature damage every 3 sec for 15 sec" effect are interesting only at the very start of leveling. Today the blade is valued purely as a transmogrification appearance — a sleek dark model that sits well on the poison and shadow looks of rogues and undead hunters.

A separate reason for the item's fame is its reputation as one of the hardest models to obtain. Because of its extremely low drop chance, the hunt for this dagger has become something of a legend among appearance collectors.

Source

The main source of the Blackvenom Blade is a drop from a rare mob. The dagger drops from a gnoll named Rohh the Silent, who dwells in the Redridge Mountains zone.

  • Rohh the Silent is a rare enemy of the Shadowhide clan who roams the western part of the Redridge Mountains: the vicinity of Ilgalar's tower, Galardell Valley, and the Stonewatch Falls.
  • A landmark is northwest of Ilgalar's tower, at roughly the coordinates /way Redridge Mountains 68 35.
  • The mob is stealthed by default and only leaves stealth when an enemy comes near. You should approach the spot slowly and inspect the area carefully.
  • The respawn time is long — from ten to sixteen hours — so it is rare to catch him right away.
  • The drop chance of the Game iconBlackvenom Blade from Rohh is extremely low — on the order of half a percent per kill. Most often the hunt for this model stretches across dozens of kills.
  • The same rare mob drops the Game iconCloak of Night — a useful collectible appearance that makes sense to gather in parallel.

The item also has a second route — through the Game iconBattered Junkbox. This is a locked chest that a rogue can pull from enemies' pockets using Game iconPick Pocket. A suitable target for this farm is humanoids in The Stockade dungeon beneath Stormwind, and low-level gnolls in the surrounding zones.

  • From opened Battered Junkboxes the blade drops with an even lower chance than from Rohh himself.
  • Several different rare daggers can drop from the boxes, and the chance is split among them, which makes targeted farming of this specific model very long.
  • On the other hand, the boxes can be gathered in bulk: in a single run through The Stockade a rogue racks up dozens of boxes by pickpocketing.

The bottom line on sources: the most predictable route is to patiently stake out Rohh the Silent; farming via Battered Junkboxes is available only to rogues and suits those ready for a very long, monotonous grind. The dagger binds when equipped, so with luck the rare blade sometimes shows up for sale on the auction house.

Alternatives

The Blackvenom Blade has no color variations of this specific model. However, several rare daggers of a similar era and silhouette drop from the same Battered Junkboxes and from world loot — they come in handy if the hunt for the black blade drags on but you need a dark dagger for your look right now.

All three items are one-handed daggers of the classic era. Game iconBlackfang is closest in its dark palette and compact silhouette, so it is the nearest replacement if you need a grim dagger without a long farm.

Visual fit

  • The dark palette and poisonous sheen make the blade a natural choice for looks centered on poisons — for an assassination rogue or a build built around poisoned weapons.
  • The compact short-blade model looks great in a "dagger plus dagger" pair — two identical blades give a cohesive, tidy silhouette.
  • The green tint of the edge echoes sets in a black-and-green palette and the looks of undead hunters and dark rangers.
  • The model's modest size harmonizes with light leather armor without bulky details — the blade does not pull attention onto itself.
  • For a contrasting look, the blade can be paired with light or silvery armor, where the dark edge works as a bright accent detail.

Tips

1

Before heading out for Rohh, check through a rare-mob tracker addon whether anyone killed him recently on your realm — this saves waiting time.

2

Rohh moves between several spots, so scan the entire western corner of the Redridge Mountains rather than a single coordinate.

3

Travel to the spawn points on foot and slowly: the mob is stealthed, and on a mount it is easy to ride right past him.

4

The mob's low level lets a max-level character kill him instantly — the main difficulty is not the fight, but finding him.

5

Combine the hunt for the blade with collecting the inv_misc_cape_04Cloak of Night from the same rare mob — two appearances on one route.

6

For farming via Battered Junkboxes you need a rogue with a leveled inv_misc_bag_11Pick Pocket; run The Stockade and pick the pockets of every humanoid.

7

The accumulated boxes are locked — open them with a lockpicker or with the same rogue trained in lockpicking.

8

Stock up on patience: both the drop from Rohh and the drop from the boxes are extremely rare, so treat the farm as a long-term collection goal rather than a one-evening affair.

9

The obtained appearance unlocks in the transmogrification collection after any character on the account receives the item — farming on an alt and transferring it via the bank works fine.
