Overview

Blade of Dormant Memories

Game iconBlade of Dormant Memories is an epic one-handed dagger of item level 200, added to World of Warcraft in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Its silhouette is a classic dark-forged stiletto: a narrow faceted blade with a slim guard and a dark hilt, free of any glowing effects. The color scheme is a muted steel edge with a faint cold sheen, which makes the item a handy neutral fit for dark and undead-themed sets.

The dagger uses the weapon model from the Stratholme set, while its stats — intellect, stamina, critical strike rating and haste — tie it to caster specializations: mages, druids, priests, shamans and warlocks. For actual combat in Midnight the item has long been irrelevant due to its low level, but as a transmog option it remains in demand thanks to its austere, minimalist look and its availability in solo play.

Source

The blade drops from Patchwerk — the first boss of the Abomination Wing in the Naxxramas raid on the 10-player difficulty. This is a Wrath of the Lich King era raid, located in the northern part of the Dragonblight (Northrend).

  • Location: Dragonblight, entrance coordinates /way 87.7 51.0 Naxxramas.
  • Boss: the abomination, the first opponent encountered in the Abomination Wing.
  • Difficulty: only the 10-player version of Naxxramas. On the 25-player version this item is not part of the loot table.
  • Drop chance: the exact percentage is not publicly recorded, but the item competes with a dozen other loot options from this boss, so several runs are needed on average.
  • Binding: "Binds when picked up" — the item is bound to the character who collects it.
  • Cooldown: the raid resets once a week, but in solo play the limit of one boss kill per week per character does not apply (an old raid can be cleared in full every week).

Who it suits visually

  • Dark undead and cultist sets — for example, Scourge gear from the Dragonblight and Icecrown.
  • Gothic priest and warlock robes with a cold color palette (gray, black, bluish metal).
  • Mage outfits with a minimalist "alchemical" leaning, where you don't want flashy effects on the weapon.
  • As a paired weapon for balance druids and shamans who already have a dark staff or shield with an undead theme.
  • For contrast — against bright, light cloth sets as a "weight" to the silhouette, giving the character a sinister accent.

Tips

1

Solo farming. In the current patch Naxxramas is fully clearable solo on a character of level 80+; on Midnight characters (level 90) the raid is cleared in 15–20 minutes with a large margin in damage and survivability.

2

Optimal classes for farming. It is most convenient to run on characters with high mobility and quick single-target damage: hunter, retribution paladin, death knight, brewmaster monk, guardian druid. The first boss is a simple static target with no complex mechanics in solo.

3

Opening the entrance. You can fly directly to Naxxramas — the "Naxxramas" waypoint is available after your first visit to the zone. If you don't have it yet, the route runs from the Dragonblight: on a flying mount up to the marker /way 87.7 51.0 Naxxramas in the northeastern part of the location.

4

Boss order. The dagger's source stands first in the Abomination Wing, reached by a straight corridor from the entrance — you don't need to clear other wings to make an attempt at the drop.

5

Looting. The dagger is taken with "Greed" — it only binds on pickup, but in solo for a single character it still drops straight into the inventory.

6

Combining the farm. In a single run you can additionally collect other ilvl 200 epics for transmog and disenchant the unwanted ones, making the time pay off.

7

Tracking alts. If no loot dropped on your main character, it makes sense to clear this boss on 2–3 alts a week — the loot table is the same, while each character has its own weekly cooldown.
