Get Blade of Misfortune
Overview

Blade of Misfortune is a rare-quality two-handed sword with a wide curved blade and a muted steel finish, introduced to World of Warcraft with The Burning Crusade expansion. Despite its low item level, the sword has a recognizable "barbaric" model with a massive blade, valued by transmog collectors precisely for its look rather than its stats.
It suits classes that wield two-handed swords: warriors, death knights, and paladins. Thanks to its neutral gray-steel palette, the blade fits easily into simple "rough" looks for mercenaries, barbarians, and footmen, without requiring you to match color accents.
Source
This is a Burning Crusade-era world drop — the sword has no single guaranteed source; it drops from a wide range of mobs and from chests in the zones of Outland.
- The acquisition type is a random world drop; the item is not tied to a specific boss or quest.
- It is most often found from ordinary mobs of Hellfire Peninsula, for example from enemies of the Bleeding Hollow clan — such as the Bleeding Hollow Grunt.
- Additional sources are mobs and chests in Zangarmarsh and in the low-level dungeons of Outland.
- The item becomes bind-on-equip only when worn, so it can be bought from other players on the auction house.
- The drop chance is low and not fixed for individual mobs — this is a typical "rare" world drop that is easier to look for on the auction house than to farm deliberately.
Who it suits visually
- Harmonizes with rough mail and plate sets in steel and earthy tones.
- Suits mercenary and barbarian looks, where the massive "powerful" shape of the weapon matters rather than magical effects.
- Pairs with simple monochrome sets without glow — the blade does not draw attention to itself.
- Contrasts with bright glowing sets, so it works better in grounded, "realistic" looks.
Tips
Targeted farming is ineffective due to the low chance from ordinary mobs — it is more worthwhile to periodically check the auction house.
If you do farm anyway, the optimal zone is Hellfire Peninsula, where there are many densely packed Bleeding Hollow clan mobs.
The item binds only when worn, so it is freely sold and bought between players.
At max level the mobs of Outland are killed instantly, so farming goes quickly but comes down precisely to the drop chance.
For your transmog collection, it is enough to equip the sword once on any suitable class — the appearance will be saved in the account collection.
The most convenient way to track the appearance of a listing is through an auction house addon, setting the search to the exact item name.
