Get Blightforged Twinblade
Overview

Blightforged Twinblade is an epic-quality one-handed paired blade from the Shadowlands expansion. The model is steeped in the aesthetic of Maldraxxus and the Necrolord Covenant: a bony base, a sickly green glow, and rough, spiked shapes that evoke the necromantic war machine of that realm. It's an unmistakable "plague" silhouette that looks especially at home on demon hunters.
By weapon class it's a paired blade, so the appearance suits specializations that use dual blades. Its item level is 71 and it requires level 60, but as combat gear it has long been obsolete: today the item is acquired purely for its appearance, for a transmogrification collection. It's part of the Necrolord Covenant weapon line, which has variants for different weapon types.
Source
The appearance doesn't drop directly from bosses — it is exchanged for a weapon token in the Necrolord Covenant sanctum.
- The
Abominable Anima Spherule token drops in the Castle Nathria raid on Raid Finder difficulty. The source of this specific token is the fight against Kael'thas Sunstrider. - Once you have the token, take it to the Necrolord Covenant sanctum — the Seat of the Primus in Maldraxxus.
- The token is exchanged for the weapon by Melissa Doom, a battle forgemaster from Castle Nathria. You can find her at the armory in the southeastern part of the Seat of the Primus, at approximately
/way 60 44. - The token is account-bound to your party, so the spherule you obtain can be passed between your own characters and exchanged on whichever one you need.
An important detail: the token is meant for the death knight, warlock, and demon hunter classes, so it's those classes that receive it in the raid. The exchange itself is only possible if you have chosen the Necrolord Covenant or have access to its sanctum.
Who It Suits Visually
- It harmonizes with Necrolord Covenant sets and any bony, plague-themed sets from Maldraxxus.
- It looks great in a green-and-marsh color scheme, where the blade's glow becomes the accent.
- It's especially fitting for the demon hunter, whose combat stance shows off paired blades to the fullest.
- It also suits a death knight building a necromantic, "army of the dead" look.
- It works through contrast with light plate armor, turning the blade into a grim detail of the look.
Tips
Castle Nathria has long been soloable, so getting the token on Raid Finder difficulty won't be hard even on your own.
Beat exactly the right fight — Kael'thas Sunstrider: the token with the paired blade is tied to that encounter.
The spherule is bound to your party: if it drops for the "wrong" character, hand it over to whoever has the Necrolord exchange unlocked.
For the exchange it's most convenient to have a character with the Necrolord Covenant chosen — that way access to Melissa Doom is guaranteed.
While you're at it, check out the other weapons of the set from the same forgemaster — they come together as a single stylistic ensemble.
If the raid doesn't give you the right token on the first try, return weekly: drops on Raid Finder difficulty aren't capped by a strict attempt limit for the appearance.
