Get Charged Runeaxe
Overview

Charged Runeaxe is an epic-quality one-handed axe from the War Within expansion. Its blade is covered in engraved runes and shot through with glowing ley-lines, making the metal look as if it were charged with the energy of Khaz Algar. The model follows a stern dwarven-Arathi aesthetic with a cold blue glow running along its edge.
By loot distribution, the axe drops for specializations that wield intellect one-handed axes: paladins, shamans, monks, evokers, and demon hunters. That makes it a handy option for healing and caster looks, where you want a compact yet expressive weapon silhouette.
The item's main feature is that it is created through the Blacksmithing profession, which means it isn't tied to luck with a particular boss drop: with the plans and reagents in hand, you get a guaranteed result.
Source
Charged Runeaxe doesn't drop directly — it is forged by a blacksmith from a set of plans.
- Profession: Khaz Algar Blacksmithing, skill level 35 is required to learn the recipe.
- Recipe:
Plans: Charged Runeaxe. The plans have a chance to drop from the reward for the weekly quest The Theater Troupe on the Isle of Dorn. The plans also occasionally turn up in surplus pouches sold by a vendor in Dornogal. - Quest access: "The Theater Troupe" unlocks at renown level 3 with the Council of Dornogal faction and can be completed once a week.
- One of the key reagents is
Sanctified Alloy; besides it, the recipe also calls for charged alloy, a weapon wrap, a superior beast claw, and one Spark of Blacksmithing. - Binding: the finished axe becomes soulbound on acquisition, so you should forge it on the character who needs it, or order it from a blacksmith through a crafting order.
Event location coordinates for convenience:
Who it suits visually
- Fits sets in a blue-steel palette — the blade's rune ley-lines echo the dwarven and Arathi armor of the War Within.
- Harmonizes with "caster" intellect looks: the glowing blade reads as an enchanted weapon for a priest or shaman.
- Contrasts with warm golden armor — a debatable but striking choice thanks to the cold blue glow.
- Looks great paired with a shield or book from the same set, creating a cohesive "runic" look.
Tips
The most reliable path to the plans is to complete "The Theater Troupe" event every week and open the reward chest.
If you don't want to wait for the plans to drop, check the surplus pouches from the vendor in Dornogal — there's a small chance there too.
Stock up on reagents in advance: sanctified and charged alloy require a separate processing chain, so gather them in parallel with farming the plans.
No blacksmith of your own? Place a crafting order — another player will forge the axe from your materials and Spark.
Unlock access to the event ahead of time: the quest requires renown level 3 with the Council of Dornogal, so build up your reputation early in the expansion.
A single set of plans is learned permanently, so once you have the recipe you can forge the axe as many times as you can gather reagents.
