Get Chelley's Sterilized Scalpel

Chelley's Sterilized Scalpel is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft in patch 4.2.0 of the Cataclysm expansion. It is a slender surgical blade with a thin curved edge and a dark handle — a weapon model from the Firelands set, designed in a strict, almost medical style without any fiery effects.

The dagger carries stats for intellect-based specializations: priests, mages, warlocks, druids, and shamans. For transmogrification, however, that makes no difference — the appearance is available to any class that can equip a dagger in the main or off hand. The understated silhouette makes this scalpel a convenient base for looks where neatness of line matters more than flashiness.

The weapon binds when equipped, so it can be freely sold or bought at the auction house before use.

The normal version of Chelley's Sterilized Scalpel drops randomly from regular enemies (trash mobs) inside the Firelands raid. It is not a drop from a specific boss — the dagger can fall from any group of mobs between bosses.

Key farming notes:

• The item binds when equipped, so a convenient option is to buy it at the auction house if you would rather not clear the raid yourself.
• The item level of the normal version is 378. For transmogrification this is irrelevant — the appearance is preserved at any level.
• The drop chance from trash is low, but the raid is easily soloed at the current character level, and the mobs respawn once a week on re-entry.
• The raid entrance is reached through the Sulfuron Spire in the Hyjal zone.

There is also a heroic version — Chelley's Sterilized Scalpel of item level 406. The heroic variant looks identical to the normal one, so upgrading the dagger for transmog alone is unnecessary. If you do need the heroic version, it is exchanged by the vendor Lurah Wrathvine: bring her the normal dagger and a Crystallized Firestone. The firestone drops from Firelands bosses on heroic difficulty. Lurah Wrathvine stands by the raid portal — she can be found both from the Hyjal side and inside.

• Suited for looks where the dagger should stay unobtrusive — the thin blade does not pull attention away from the armor and shoulders.
• Looks good with dark and silvery-steel sets of plate or mail armor thanks to its neutral color scheme.
• Pairs with sets themed around mercenaries, healers, and dark cultists — the blade reads as a surgical or ritual instrument.
• Stands out in contrast when paired with a bright fiery weapon from the Firelands: the calm scalpel in one hand offsets a flashy second blade.
• Fits stealthy looks for rogues and demon hunters, where a cold presentation is wanted rather than a fiery one.
