Get Decahedral Dwarven Dice
Overview
Decahedral Dwarven Dice is a pair of ten-sided dice that your character throws onto the ground with an emote and an automatic /roll 10 performed twice. The toy was added in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.0.1) and moved into the Toy Box in patch 6.0.2 (Warlords of Draenor), where its quality was also raised from common to rare.
The item can be obtained in only one way — by pickpocketing humanoids of Northrend, primarily humans and dwarves. This means only a Rogue with the Pick Pocket ability can farm it. The roll cooldown is 10 seconds, the effect is purely cosmetic and grants no combat advantages. The dice are a reference to the ten-sided d10 die from tabletop role-playing games and stand alongside the matching
Worn Troll Dice and
Loaded Gnomish Dice.
Why You Want This Toy
- A unique collectible pickpocket toy. This is one of three "dice" toys obtained exclusively through pickpocketing. Together with the Worn Troll Dice and the Loaded Gnomish Dice, they form a rogue collector's mini-set that cannot be bought for currency or looted from a boss.
- Account-wide status. Once added to the Toy Box, the dice become available to every character on your account — even those who cannot pickpocket. A single rogue on the account unlocks the toy for your mage, paladin, and any other class.
- Boosts your toy counter. It counts toward every collector meta-achievement: Big Box of "Holiday" Tricks, The Stuff of Nightmares and similar achievements for 200 and 300 items.
- High auction price. The dice can be traded between players until activated, and sell on the auction house. On most realms the price holds in the 10,000–30,000 gold range, sometimes higher — comparable to the matching Worn Troll Dice.
How to Obtain
Step 1. Prepare a Rogue
The toy can only be pickpocketed by a Rogue — no other class has the Pick Pocket ability. Any specialization works, but Subtlety is more convenient thanks to constant stealth and fast movement. At the Midnight max level (90) you one-shot the humanoids of Northrend, so gear does not matter — only movement speed and stealth count.
Step 2. Choose a Farming Spot
The toy is a world drop with a very low individual chance, so the key to success is the density of humanoids in a single location. Two spots on retail are tried and considered the best.
| Location | Zone | Whom to Pickpocket | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Hearthglen | Dragonblight | Scarlet Onslaught (humans) | The benchmark spot: a compact circular route from the gate through the courtyard and training dummies, constant respawn, no pauses |
| Onslaught Harbor | Icecrown | Scarlet Onslaught (humans) | A backup option in case another farmer is camping New Hearthglen; the route is a bit shorter, the density lower |
Historically players also pickpocketed dwarves near Stormwind Keep and humans near Fordragon Hold, but the density there is lower and the route less convenient — both spots above are more efficient.
Step 3. Build a Route
- Fly to the nearest flight point and reach the chosen farming spot on your mount.
- Enter stealth before the first pack of humanoids.
- Walk up to each humanoid and use Pick Pocket. Whether the toy dropped or not — move on to the next mob without killing the current one.
- Once you have pickpocketed the whole location, return to the start — the respawn of most Northrend humanoids takes 30–60 seconds, and the loop becomes uninterrupted.
- Every few minutes check your bags — the toy lands in your inventory automatically.
One hour of such farming yields an average of 200–400 successful pickpockets. The toy's chance per pickpocket is measured in fractions of a percent, so realistically expect 1–3 hours of farming before you get it. If you are unlucky — the farm can drag on to 5–8 hours; this is normal behavior for a rare world drop.
Step 4. Alternative — the Auction House
The toy can be traded between players until activated. If you have no rogue or do not want to spend time farming, check the auction house:
- Open the auction window at any auctioneer.
- Type "Decahedral Dwarven Dice" into the search.
- Compare the price with sale history (TradeSkillMaster or the built-in search). Buying is usually more worthwhile if your time is more valuable than gold.
Usage
- Effect: your character throws two ten-sided dice onto the ground and automatically performs
/roll 10twice — the roll result is shown in chat. The effect is purely decorative, no bonuses or buffs. - Cooldown: 10 seconds. The cooldown is individual, not shared with other toys.
- Where it works: in the open world, cities, dungeons, and raids. It is not blocked on battlegrounds and arenas, but is rarely used in combat for obvious reasons.
- Stacking: it does not conflict with other toys — you can roll the dice in parallel with an active transformation or another effect.
- In the collection forever: after the first activation by any character on the account, the dice remain and require no repeat farming.
Tips
Collect all three "dice" toys in one session. The Worn Troll Dice is pickpocketed from the same Northrend humanoids as the dwarven one — both often drop in the same farming session. The Loaded Gnomish Dice is pickpocketed from humanoids in level 80–85 zones (Cataclysm), on a separate trip. If you are already on your rogue — set aside an hour for each and close out the whole mini-set.
Take the Subtlety spec for speed. Constant invisibility and movement-speed bonuses save minutes on the loop. The specialization plays no role for the theft itself.
Do not finish off mobs after the steal. Pick Pocket deals no damage and does not break your stealth — after it, move on to the next humanoid without wasting time on a kill. If you kill everyone in sight, you will simply run into the respawn timer.
Alts on the same faction make no difference. Northrend humanoids can be pickpocketed by rogues of any faction and race. If you have two rogue alts, they farm independently and roll the drop chance independently.
It counts toward collection achievements. Even if rolling the dice is of no interest to you on its own, +1 to the Toy Box brings you closer to Big Box of "Holiday" Tricks and The Stuff of Nightmares, which unlock transmog rewards.
