Overview

D.I.S.C.O.

D.I.S.C.O. is a collectible disco-ball toy added to World of Warcraft in patch 2.4.2. The acronym stands for "Deployable Incandescent Smoke Cloud Originator." When activated, a box with a mirror ball appears at your character's feet, unfolds with a distinctive sound, and acts as a mini dance floor for about 20 seconds: any player who clicks on it starts dancing and hears a disco track instead of the zone music.

With patch 6.0.2 the item was moved into the Toy Box collection — after a single addition it stays available to every character on the account and takes up no inventory space. The cooldown is 5 minutes.

Why you want this toy

  • A unique social toy — D.I.S.C.O. remains one of the most recognizable "party" toys in the game: the box turns into a full-fledged dance floor with disco music that everyone around can see and hear.
  • Regularly required at the Trading Post — the task "Use the D.I.S.C.O. toy" returns to the monthly Traveler's Log every few months. Without the toy itself you cannot complete the task, and it is you who loses out on Trader's Tender.
  • Account-wide status — collected once on any character and forever unlocked for all existing and future characters on the account, on both factions.
  • Historical rarity — added back in The Burning Crusade era, and over the years it has only been mass-distributed twice. Most players who own it got it during those brief windows.

How to obtain

As of the current Midnight expansion (level 90), D.I.S.C.O. has three sources. This toy has no in-game crafting and no mob farming.

Source 1. Trading Card Game (TCG) loot card

The toy drops from the "Disco Inferno!" card from the "Hunt for Illidan" set of the old WoW TCG. The chance of finding the right card is roughly 1 in 132 booster packs, so opening boosters blindly is not cost-effective.

  1. Buy a ready-made card code on the secondary market. This is the fastest and most predictable method. Prices vary heavily by marketplace and timing, with a typical range from a few dozen to a hundred dollars per code.
  2. Redeem the code on your Battle.net account page in the TCG code exchange section. After redeeming, a mail with a "certificate" item is attached to the account.
  3. Log in on any character and collect the mail with the attached certificate item from the mailbox.
  4. Fly to the pirate cove on the Cape of Stranglethorn. The goblin trader Landro Longshot stands on the lower docks next to the Auctioneer.

  1. Hand Landro the certificate and receive D.I.S.C.O.. The toy is added to the Toy Box immediately.

Source 2. Twitch Drops (2023 giveaway)

From March 21 to April 2, 2023, D.I.S.C.O. was given away on Twitch as part of the Dragonflight promo campaign. The requirement: watch World of Warcraft streams from participating streamers for at least 4 hours in total and have linked Battle.net and Twitch accounts.

If you took part in that giveaway but never claimed the reward, it has most likely already expired: unclaimed drops were automatically removed after 7 days. You cannot recreate the event yourself; that window is fully closed.

Follow-up for existing owners:

  1. Open your Twitch Drops inventory and check the "expired rewards" section — they cannot be claimed after the fact.
  2. If the toy was linked correctly, it appeared in the Toy Box on the account in the region of the first login after linking.

Source 3. Possible future re-runs

Blizzard has brought D.I.S.C.O. back into circulation several times via Twitch Drops and notable promotions. There is no guarantee of a repeat, but if a new giveaway is announced, follow the news on the official World of Warcraft site and on partner streamers' channels. The window usually lasts 1–2 weeks.

How to reach Landro Longshot

Landro Longshot is the goblin TCG code trader. He stands in Booty Bay, the goblin port town on the southern tip of the Cape of Stranglethorn.

The most convenient ways to get there:

  1. From any Alliance capital — portal or airship to Stormwind. Then a gryphon to Booty Bay.
  2. From any Horde capital — zeppelin or portal to Orgrimmar and on to Grom'gol in Northern Stranglethorn. From there, on foot or by mount to Booty Bay.

Landro Longshot is on the lower tier of the docks, next to the Auctioneer, flanked by two goblin bodyguards. Hand over the certificate item received after redeeming the TCG code, and the toy will go into the collection.

Usage

  • Activated from the Toy Box by clicking the icon or from the action bar.
  • A box with a disco ball appears at your location. It plays a disco track and lighting for about 20 seconds, after which the audio fades, but the object itself remains clickable for a short while.
  • Any player who right-clicks the box gets the "Listening to Music" buff, starts performing a dance animation, and hears a disco track instead of the zone music.
  • The cooldown is 5 minutes on your personal Toy Box. It does not share a cooldown with other toys.
  • Works in the open world and most capitals. In rated battlegrounds, arenas, and combat instances, activation is usually blocked.
  • Combines with other effect toys (for example, emotes, party buffs, fireworks), but does not cancel visual effects already applied to you.

Tips

1

Pairing with the Trading Post task. If this month's Traveler's Log features "Use the D.I.S.C.O. toy in several cities," check in advance that the toy is actually in your collection. Without it the activity is unavailable, and 100 Trader's Tender slip away.

2

Ideal spots to activate — crowded places: the banks in Orgrimmar and Stormwind.

3

Buying on the secondary market. Before buying a TCG code, check the seller's reputation — the old TCG code market is flooded with non-working and already-redeemed codes. Stick to platforms that guarantee a refund for an invalid code.

4

Don't rush to redeem the certificate. After opening the mail you will have a certificate item in your inventory; using it drops D.I.S.C.O. into the current character's collection. The unlock is account-wide, so afterward you can comfortably play on any other character.

5

Watch for Twitch Drops announcements. Giveaways in this format are the cheapest way to get D.I.S.C.O.: just 4 hours of watching. It pays to subscribe to the news in advance, as the windows are short.
