TBC Classic Feral Druid (DPS) Guide (Phase 3)
About the Class
Feral Druid (DPS) is a melee fighter in leather armor. It fights in Cat Form and uses two-handed weapons: staves, maces, and polearms. In terms of damage the spec falls behind most others in TBC, but it brings the group
Leader of the Pack, and when needed it switches into
Dire Bear Form to tank. It also provides the raid with
Innervate and
Rebirth.
Strengths
- Fast leveling and strong solo play: stealth, high burst damage, and self-healing.
- The best blend of tank and fighter roles: both the talents and most of the gear suit either role.
- Powerful support for physical damage dealers through
Leader of the Pack and Improved Leader of the Pack.
Weaknesses
- Survivability depends heavily on gear: in weak items, staying alive is hard.
- Poor scaling: damage is tied to attack power in form and to energy, which do not grow from secondary stats.
- High demands on the player: you must track periodic effects, be able to tank, and master powershifting.

Talents
Ability Priority
Mangle (Cat) — keep the debuff on the target at all times
Rip — from 4 combo points, if the target will survive the full duration
Ferocious Bite — from 4 combo points, if the target will die before
Rip finishes ticking
Shred — building combo points
Cat Form — shift out at zero energy to restore it
Important Abilities:
Cat Form — powershift:
Furor and the
Wolfshead Helm grant energy on every shift; do it at minimum energy, right after
Shred
Tiger's Fury — only if you are already at 100 energy and a tick is about to arrive: on the pull or during a forced retreat
Ferocious Bite — cast it close to 35 energy; at 60 or above, fit in another
Shred first
Omen of Clarity — spend the proc on
Shred, not on
Ferocious Bite

Best Professions
Engineering
The most useful for damage:
Super Sapper Charge and the
Gnomish Flame Turret add damage, the
Gnomish Battle Chicken gives the group haste, and the
Goblin Rocket Launcher and
Gnomish Poultryizer are useful when you have to tank.
Enchanting
Exclusive ring enchants stay relevant the whole of TBC. Take the strike enchant first, and the stats one later.
Leatherworking
Lets you craft the Primalstrike set and cover weak slots at the start. The
Drums of Battle come from here as well, although the early drum versions lower your personal damage.
Jewelcrafting
There's little benefit at the start, but by Sunwell Plateau it unlocks the
Hard Khorium Choker — that item alone makes the profession worth taking.
Alchemy
A good source of gold thanks to transmutes and new specializations in elixirs, potions, and transmutation.
