Overview

Пожиратель мертвых

Game iconEater of the Dead is a one-handed axe that hails from classic World of Warcraft. It is a compact weapon with a wide, half-moon blade and a sinister bone motif that fits perfectly into looks tied to the undead and dark magic. Despite its modest rarity, the model is recognizable and still popular among fans of classic appearances.

As a combat weapon the axe lost its value long ago: its item level is low, and no one would carry it in the current game. Today the Eater of the Dead is collected purely for transmog — it is a tidy one-handed axe with a grim aesthetic that looks great in death knight, rogue, and warrior sets built around an undead theme.

Source

The axe drops from the boss Ogom the Wretched in the Sunken Temple dungeon. This is a classic low-level dungeon located in the Swamp of Sorrows.

  • The dungeon is in the Swamp of Sorrows; the entrance is in the center of Lake of Despair, underwater.
  • Ogom the Wretched is an elite undead, one of Jammal'an's minions near the temple's inner sanctum.
  • The Eater of the Dead is a random drop from the boss rather than a guaranteed reward, so several runs may be required.
  • The dungeon can be cleared solo by a character of current level — none of the bosses block a single-player clear.
  • There are few re-entry restrictions: the dungeon can be reset, observing the standard limit on the number of instance entries per hour.

Alternatives

No direct recolors of the Eater of the Dead have been found among known items — this is a specific one-handed axe model from the classic weapon set. If what matters is not the exact model but the overall silhouette of a small axe with a dark, bone-like aesthetic, take a look at other one-handed axes from classic-dungeon tiers: many of them use similar blade geometry, differing only in the shade of metal and grip. This axe has no fully matching twin in appearance.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Harmonizes with undead- and Scourge-themed sets thanks to the bone motif of the blade.
  • Suits death knights as a thematically fitting one-handed weapon for grim ensembles.
  • Looks great in rogue and hunter looks where a compact axe without a bulky silhouette is needed.
  • Contrasts with light plate armor when a dark accent in the hands is required.

Tips

1

The most convenient way to farm the axe is solo on a current-level character — the entire Sunken Temple is cleared in a few minutes.

2

Ogom the Wretched is deep inside the temple; to avoid wandering, head toward the inner sanctum where Jammal'an stands with his retinue.

3

Since it is a random drop, keep several repeat runs on hand and remember the hourly limit on dungeon entries.

4

While you are there, clear the temple's other bosses as well — they drop other classic-appearance items for your transmog collection.

5

It is most convenient to farm on classes with high mobility and self-healing: this way resets and clears go faster.

6

Once the axe drops, you only need to pick it up once — the appearance is saved in the character's wardrobe forever.
