Overview

Edict of Argus

Game iconEdict of Argus is an epic two-handed staff added to World of Warcraft with the Warlords of Draenor expansion (patch 6.2.0). It is a massive fel model in a dark purple-and-green palette: the head blazes with greenish infernal flame, and the shaft is wrapped in demonic spikes in the style of the Burning Legion. The silhouette is double-sided, with both ends of the staff adorned by symmetrical fel crystals.

In terms of stats it is an intellect staff, so it enters the transmog collection of those who wield staves: mages, warlocks, priests, shamans, druids and monks. Today the item is valued purely as transmog, since Warlords of Draenor gear has long been outclassed in power, and players chase it for the striking demonic model.

The staff's model is a reimagining of the classic weapon Game iconApostle of Argus from The Burning Crusade, which dropped from another incarnation of Archimonde. Thematically both staves are tied to Argus and the Burning Legion, which makes the Edict a logical pick for Fel-themed looks.

Source

The staff drops from the final boss named Archimonde in the Hellfire Citadel raid. The raid itself is located in the Tanaan Jungle zone on Draenor.

  • The source is the last, thirteenth boss of the raid, so you have to clear all of Hellfire Citadel to reach him.
  • The staff drops on LFR, Normal, Heroic and Mythic difficulties — the specific difficulty has no effect on the transmog appearance.
  • The drop chance is low, around 16 percent per kill, so farming can take several weeks.
  • The limit is one Archimonde kill per character per week on each difficulty.

Raid entrance coordinates:

/way #6723 45.5 53.8 Entrance to Hellfire Citadel

The raid is several expansions out of date, so Archimonde can be soloed at the current maximum level of 90 with virtually no preparation. You can open Mythic difficulty right away — it does not make the solo farm any harder, but it grants a separate loot roll.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Suits Burning Legion and Fel-themed looks — the rich green glow echoes fel armor and green fiery weapon illusions.
  • Harmonizes with dark sets in a purple-and-black palette, where the green fel accent works as a contrasting detail.
  • Fitting for warlocks and Fire mages, whose theme revolves around destructive magic.
  • Pairs well with other Hellfire Citadel trophies kept in the same demonic palette.
  • Contrasts with bright "celestial" sets — for a priest or druid look this is a debatable but bold choice.

Tips

1

It is best to farm on a class with high mobility and good self-healing — a paladin, demon hunter or monk works well thanks to fast raid clearing.

2

A long chain of bosses leads to Archimonde, so budget around 15–20 minutes for a full run.

3

Run Mythic difficulty — solo it is no harder than the rest, and the separate roll raises your weekly drop chance.

4

Remember the weekly limit: a single character gets loot from Archimonde once a week on each difficulty, so farming on several alts noticeably speeds up the acquisition.

5

This same raid drops plenty of other Warlords of Draenor transmog gear, so the run pays off even without the staff dropping.

6

If the staff stubbornly refuses to drop, check the loot weekly on every available difficulty, not just on Mythic.
