Get Elune's Lantern

Elune's Lantern is a collectible toy from the "toy collection" category, added to World of Warcraft back in Classic and converted into the toy collection in patch 6.0.2. It is a seasonal Lunar Festival item, described as "a device said to be able to hold the light sent by Elune herself".

The toy works through an intermediary: when activated, it turns one Solid Stone into a Stone of Elune. The Stone of Elune itself summons a ring of soft moonlight on the ground that lasts three minutes. The Lantern's cooldown is 24 hours, meaning one Stone per day.

You can obtain Elune's Lantern only once, and only during the Lunar Festival — from the quest Elune's Blessing after killing the seasonal boss Omen in Moonglade.

• Unique visual effect — Elune's ring of light is not replicated by any other toy in the collection. Handy for screenshots, roleplay scenes, or simply as a marker for gathering your group
• Seasonal rarity — the toy is available only two weeks a year, during the Lunar Festival window. Miss 2026 and you'll have to wait until next February
• Part of the toy collection — it counts toward your overall toy total and contributes to achievements for the number of items collected
• Bonus to the Lunar Festival achievement — the very kill of Omen you came for to get the Lantern also completes the achievement Elune's Blessing
• Account-wide status — once obtained, the Lantern is immediately available to every character on your account, no need to farm it on alts

Elune's Lantern is given out by Valadar Starsong — a night elf quest giver in Nighthaven, the village in Moonglade. He stands on a wooden platform together with the other Lunar Festival vendors and appears only for the duration of the holiday.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Wait for the start of the Lunar Festival. Without the active event, neither Valadar nor Omen will appear in the game
2. Travel to Moonglade. The fastest route is via the Invitation to the Lunar Festival, which is mailed to you for free on your first login during the holiday. Alternatives are a druid portal or a flight path through Feralas and a gryphon to the glade itself
3. In Nighthaven find Valadar Starsong on the wooden platform by the pond (/way #493 56.0 30.4 Valadar Starsong) and pick up the quest Elune's Blessing
4. From the same vendor buy at least a stack of Lunar Festival firework bundles — they are needed to summon Omen
5. Head down to the southeastern shore of Lake Elune'ara (/way #493 60.0 49.5 Omen launch sites). Firework launchers stand on the shore
6. Launch the bundles from the launchers. Minions of Omen will appear on and around you — finish them off and keep launching
7. After several waves of minions, Omen himself rises from the water. At max Midnight level (90) he is killed in a few seconds
8. When Omen dies, remain standing next to his body — a beam of moonlight will place the "Elune's Blessing" buff on you, and the quest will complete automatically
9. Return to Valadar and turn in the quest. You'll receive Elune's Lantern, three Solid Stone, a Festival Firework, and reputation with the Cenarion Circle

When activated, the Lantern consumes one Solid Stone from your inventory and places one Stone of Elune in your bag. The Stone is a separate item with its own activation: you toss it on the ground, and at the chosen spot a ring of moonlight about five meters across appears, hanging for three minutes.

• The Lantern's cooldown is 24 hours. So one Stone of Elune can be created per day
• The Stone's effect duration is 3 minutes, after which the ring disappears
• The Stone of Elune is a consumable: each use spends one charge. Your stock of Stones accumulates like an ordinary item in your bag
• The effect is purely visual, granting no buffs or bonuses
• It works in the open world, cities, garrisons, and event zones. In arenas and rated battlegrounds the ring will not appear
• It is compatible with other cosmetic toys — no conflicts and no shared cooldown

The three stones from the quest fly off instantly, so it's worth knowing the backup sources:

• Lunar Festival Elders. Each of the 84 Lunar Festival elders around the world gives a Lucky Red Envelope, which has a chance to contain an Ancestor's Moonstone — functionally equivalent to the Stone of Elune
• Mining. Solid Stone is mined from mithril veins all across Azeroth. At max level it comes off any ore in a single hit
• Auction House. The stones cost pennies and are usually for sale year-round — the fastest way to top up your supply
