Emerald Dragonfang — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Emerald Dragonfang is a one-handed dagger of epic quality with a richly green, scaled model. The blade is shaped like a dragon's tooth: a curved edge flows into a hilt wrapped in plant-like patterns, and the entire surface shimmers with the emerald color of the Emerald Dream. It is one of the most recognizable "natural" daggers in the game — no glow or effects, but with a solid silhouette that reads even from a distance.
The appearance entered the modern version of the game in patch 7.2.5 as part of the anniversary event rewards. The dagger recreates the look of a classic weapon from the era of the original World of Warcraft, when four green dragons guarded the portals to the Emerald Dream. The item binds on pickup, is available to characters with dagger proficiency, and looks equally fitting on rogues, druids, and mages.
Source
The Emerald Dragonfang drops from the Dragons of Nightmare — four world bosses that return to the game only during the annual World of Warcraft anniversary event. All four dragons share a common loot table, so the dagger can drop from any of them.
Each dragon stands at its own fixed spot near a portal to the Emerald Dream:
| Dragon | Location | Coordinates |
|---|---|---|
| Emeriss | Duskwood | /way 46.8 40.4 |
| Lethon | The Hinterlands | /way 63.0 26.3 |
| Taerar | Ashenvale | /way 94.6 41.0 |
| Ysondre | Feralas | /way 50.9 12.2 |
Only one dragon is active in the world at a time — the bosses rotate once per day. You can find out which of them is available today by the icon on the world map: hovering over the icon shows a timer until the current boss disappears.
Key looting details:
- The dagger is available only during the anniversary event, which lasts about three weeks in November–December.
- Loot from the dragon can be obtained once per day on each character.
- The drop chance of this particular appearance is low — the dragons' loot table contains several items, and the dagger shares it with the rest.
- This is a world boss with a large health pool — you usually can't kill it solo, so a group of several players is needed.
- Before the hunt, it's worth picking up the weekly quest The Originals from the celebration organizers: for killing the dragon it additionally grants several Timewarped Badges.
Who It Suits Visually
- It harmonizes with leather and cloth sets in green and natural tones — outfits themed around druids, the Emerald Dream, and elven motifs.
- It pairs well with the matching
Nightmare Blade — combining the dagger and the sword from the same loot table creates a cohesive look. - It looks striking against a rogue's dark leather armor — the emerald blade becomes a bright accent on a black background.
- It suits looks built around dragon themes: the scaled texture of the blade echoes draconic shoulders and helms.
- It fits neutral sets without glow — the dagger has no animation or effects, so it doesn't clash with vivid armor sets.
Tips
First check the world map: the active dragon's icon shows who is available today and how long until it rotates.
Group up in advance — a world boss is built for several players, and in the open world it's easier to find allies through the group finder.
Pick up The Originals quest before you head to the dragon: it grants an extra reward for the same kill.
Loot from the dragon is limited to once per day per character — if the appearance didn't drop, come back the next day or bring alts.
The appearance is available only during the anniversary event window: miss the event this year and you'll have to wait for the next one, with no guarantee of return.
Farm the dragon with several characters in parallel — each alt gets its own chance at loot per day.
If the dagger stubbornly refuses to drop, try the classic source: the same appearance is dropped by Ysondre in the original World of Warcraft, and that option is available year-round.
Don't get attached to a specific dragon — the loot table is the same for all four, so hit whichever is active right now.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
