Engraved Gargoyle Femur — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

"Engraved Gargoyle Femur" is an epic-quality two-handed staff added to World of Warcraft with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It is a grim bone staff: an elongated head of engraved bone with a cold glow, kept in the dark-gray and icy palette of the Scourge. Its appearance is a perfect fit for necromancer, dark priest, and death-mage looks.
Bone staves are a separate favorite category among transmog collectors, and this variant is prized for its expressive "necrotic" silhouette and its connection to the Icecrown Citadel theme. The cold glow of the head makes it a standout choice for shadow and frost looks.
The appearance is unlocked once you obtain the item and is saved in your account's appearance collection.
Source
The only source of the "Engraved Gargoyle Femur" is a drop in the Pit of Saron dungeon.
- The Pit of Saron is a dungeon from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, located in Icecrown Citadel in the north of Northrend.
- The staff drops only on the dungeon's Heroic difficulty.
- It is obtained from the final boss "Scourgelord Tyrannus" — a death knight mounted on a frost wyrm.
- The boss spawn point:
/way #4813 44.1 26.6 "Scourgelord Tyrannus". - The chance to get the staff is low — about 7 percent per kill on Heroic difficulty.
- There is no attempt limit: Heroic Pit of Saron can be run daily, so the farm comes down to repeated runs.
Because of the low drop chance, collecting the appearance can take several days of regular runs. The dungeon is long outdated and is cleared solo without any trouble.
Who It Suits Visually
- Suits classes that use staves: mages, priests, warlocks, druids, and shamans.
- Harmonizes with armor in the dark, bone, and icy palette characteristic of the Scourge and Northrend theme.
- Nicely complements necromancer and dark priest looks thanks to the engraved bone in its head.
- Contrasts with bright "holy" sets — a debatable combination, but one capable of creating a sharp accent of darkness and death.
Tips
The staff is easiest to farm on a high-level character: Heroic Pit of Saron is cleared solo in a few minutes.
Before entering, be sure to set Heroic difficulty — this item does not drop on Normal difficulty.
"Scourgelord Tyrannus" is the dungeon's final boss, so you have to clear the whole route to reach him; follow the main path toward point 44.1 26.6.
If the staff does not drop, leave and re-enter the next day, when the ability to run the dungeon resets.
The boss drops only one copy of the staff per kill, so for several characters you will need several successful runs.
While you farm, pay attention to the rest of the boss's loot — in a single run you can collect several appearances from this dungeon at once.
The optimal classes for speed farming are those that quickly destroy mob packs on the way to the boss, such as a death knight or a demon hunter.
