Gleaming Whispering Temple Blade — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

The
Gleaming Whispering Temple Blade is a one-handed sword appearance, a high-resolution reimagining of the classic
Quel'Serrar blade from the original World of Warcraft. It is a golden blade with an elegant guard shaped like dragon wings; what sets it apart from the standard version is its shimmering particle effect — the blade looks as if it is wreathed in an iridescent haze.
The appearance belongs to the category of collectible cosmetic items: when used, it adds an illusion to your warband's collection and is available to every character on the account. The blade itself carries no stats and exists purely for its looks.
The appearance arrived in World of Warcraft during the Dragonflight expansion (patch 10.2.0). It references Quel'Serrar — an ancient blade forged by dragons and gifted to the kaldorei, which in the classic game was assembled through a quest chain in Dire Maul and Onyxia's Lair.
Source
The Gleaming Whispering Temple Blade is not unlocked directly, but through the
Arsenal: Whispering Temple Blades item. When used, this arsenal unlocks two appearances at once: the standard
Whispering Temple Blade and its gleaming variant. The item is bound to the account, so you can buy it on one character and collect the appearance on any other.
The arsenal was originally sold by Ms. Xiulan — Madam Goya's assistant on the Black Market. Her stall is located in the Dragonflight capital of Valdrakken, in the Black Market hall beneath the island with the dragon hatchling nursery, at roughly /way 19.2 50.3. The starting bid for the arsenal was 200,000 gold, and Ms. Xiulan's sale ran from January to August 2024.
After that sale ended, no direct vendor offers the appearance anymore. Now, in Midnight, the only way to get the arsenal is to catch it in the regular rotation of the Black Market Auction House. The lot appears there irregularly, is listed with a starting bid, and goes to whoever offers the most: the Black Market has no instant-buy mode, and only the highest bid by the end of the auction wins.
Who It Suits Visually
- The golden palette and dragon motifs harmonize with sets in the tones of the bronze and amber dragonflights — looks leaning toward the Dragonflight theme.
- The blade looks great with white and gold cloth or plate armor in a "temple" style, reinforcing the appearance's name.
- The shimmering particle effect makes it a winning choice for one-handed specializations where the weapon is constantly on display — for example, dual-wield looks.
- It contrasts with dark and crimson armor — a debatable but striking combination, where the gleaming blade becomes the single bright accent.
Tips
It is most cost-effective to buy the arsenal on a character with a large gold reserve — the appearance unlocks for the entire warband anyway.
Keep an eye on the Black Market rotation: the lot appears irregularly, so it is worth checking the stall regularly and subscribing to appearance tracking through addons like TradeSkillMaster.
The Black Market exists in several capitals, but Ms. Xiulan worked specifically in Valdrakken — check its auction first.
Budget with a buffer: the final auction price often noticeably exceeds the 200,000 gold starting bid due to competition.
A bid on the Black Market cannot be withdrawn, and in the last five minutes any new bid extends the timer by another five minutes — be ready for a drawn-out bidding war.
A single arsenal unlocks both appearances at once, so there is no need to hunt separately for the standard Whispering Temple Blade.
The appearance is purely cosmetic and not tied to a class — a character of any specialization can collect it, even one that does not wield swords.
