Overview

Gluttonous Rondel

Game iconGluttonous Rondel is a rare one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft in patch 9.1 of the Shadowlands expansion. It is a short, faceted rondel blade: dark metal, burgundy accents and a large gem set into the pommel. The silhouette follows the style of the broker artifacts from Tazavesh, the Veiled Market — restrained decoration, a prominent gem, and no glow or other effects.

The dagger belongs to the smuggler gear class of the mega-dungeon: its clean shape fits equally well into dark leather sets and into cloth ensembles trimmed with gold. By its stats it is a caster weapon — Intellect, Stamina, Critical Strike and Versatility — so when 9.1 launched the item appealed to cloth specializations.

At Midnight max level (90) the numerical stats no longer matter — the dagger is collected solely for its appearance in the Appearances tab. The model has just a single look variation: the item has no similar recolors, so the Gluttonous Rondel is the only way to add this silhouette to your collection.

Source

The Gluttonous Rondel drops from Alcruux — the first opponent of the "Menagerie of the Master" encounter in Tazavesh, the Veiled Market. The encounter is built as a fight against three bosses in a row: when Alcruux's health drops to 40%, "Achillite" joins the fight, followed by Venza Goldfuse. The dagger is tied specifically to Alcruux's loot table.

Dungeon structure

Tazavesh, the Veiled Market is a Shadowlands mega-dungeon with eight bosses. In Season 3 of The War Within (patch 11.2) the dungeon was reworked and split into two standalone wings:

  • "Tazavesh: Streets of Wonder" — the first five bosses: Zo'phex the Sentinel, the "Menagerie of the Master", "Mailroom Mayhem", "The Grand Menagerie" and So'azmi.
  • "Tazavesh: So'leah's Gambit" — the last three bosses.

The Alcruux encounter is located in the "Tazavesh: Streets of Wonder" wing — that is exactly the part you need to run for the dagger.

Difficulties and access

In The War Within the dungeon is no longer locked behind a long quest chain as it was in Shadowlands. Access is simplified: just reach the dungeon and enter through the desired difficulty.

  • Heroic difficulty — opens through the group finder tool. A convenient option for a solo run: there is no weekly lockout here, you can re-enter as many times as you like.
  • Mythic difficulty — when you enter outside the keystone format, the dungeon automatically launches in the harder "heroic" mega-dungeon variant. No clearance is required to launch it in patch 11.2.
  • Mythic+ — a keystone is required to enter. The dagger itself does not require this difficulty for its appearance, but it is on a key of level 12 and higher that the Gluttonous Rondel is listed as Season 3 The War Within seasonal loot.

Drop chance and limits

The Gluttonous Rondel is a regular item from Alcruux's loot table, with no hidden multipliers. Blizzard does not publish the exact percentage; the dagger shares the table with the encounter's other loot, so it does not drop on every run. What is important to keep in mind while farming:

  • Loot is personal — no group distribution is needed, each player receives loot separately.
  • On Heroic difficulty there is no weekly lockout: you can re-enter and farm the encounter as many times as you want.
  • The dagger becomes soulbound on pickup — it cannot be transferred to another character.
  • It is enough to equip the item for even a second for the appearance to be permanently unlocked for the entire account.

Solo viability

At level 90 the "Menagerie of the Master" encounter can be cleared solo by any class. Alcruux has no mechanics that block a solo fight: his effects rely on group interaction and do not get in the way in solo play. It is most convenient to farm with a class with high mobility — a Druid in Cat Form, a Rogue, a Demon Hunter or a Mage reach the encounter from the entrance faster, but no specific specialization is required.

Alternatives

The Gluttonous Rondel has no known recolors — according to Wowhead, the item has only one appearance variation. This means you cannot replace it with "the same dagger in another color": for this silhouette you have to farm Alcruux specifically.

If you need a blade with a similar shape, look at the overall dagger category in the appearance database:

  • The catalog of all dagger appearances — Daggers in Wowhead's transmog tab: here you can filter models by quality and source and pick a visually close option.
  • Other loot from the "Menagerie of the Master" encounter — Alcruux, "Achillite" and Venza Goldfuse also drop other Tazavesh gear in a similar burgundy-and-gold palette, so a single run can complete several appearances at once.

Who it suits visually

  • It pairs with dark leather sets in a burgundy-black palette — especially with sets that feature garnet or ruby inlays.
  • It harmonizes with gold-trimmed Shadowlands cloth sets: the gem in the pommel echoes the gold decoration of that era's armor.
  • It looks good alongside a shield or tome in the off hand — the compact silhouette does not draw too much attention to itself.
  • It fits "urban smuggler" looks: leather trousers, a light jacket, a hooded cloak in dark tones.
  • It contrasts with light Druid sets — it can become a bright accent, but will require a thoughtful choice of color for the rest of the gear.

Tips

1

Farm the dungeon's Heroic difficulty — there is no weekly lockout there, and you can do 10–15 quick runs per evening.

2

Go only as far as the "Menagerie of the Master" encounter. After defeating the three bosses the dagger has either dropped or not — there is no need to finish off the wing's other five bosses for it.

3

A short stretch of streets with a mandatory scene and a couple of enemy groups leads from the entrance to the encounter — usually 2–3 minutes.

4

At level 90 it is most convenient to farm as a Druid in Cat Form or as a Rogue: both specializations reach the encounter faster than the intro scene lasts.

5

Do not skip the other loot from the "Menagerie of the Master" bosses — the encounter's other gear also unlocks Tazavesh appearances, and a full encounter takes only a little longer than just Alcruux.

6

The dagger is needed by caster specializations only as an appearance: pick it up, equip it for a second, unlock the look — after that the item can be safely sold or scrapped.

7

If your class really cannot manage solo, use the group finder, but for most specializations at Midnight level this is unnecessary.
