Gnarled Thornmace — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Gnarled Thornmace is an epic one-handed mace added to World of Warcraft with the Midnight expansion. It is a knotty weapon with a head of intertwined thorny branches and a stony haft, finished in an earthy-green palette with violet Void veins. The model belongs to the Midnight delve weapon family and reads well at close range thanks to its bark and spike texture.
The mace is used by agility and intellect melee fighters — rogues, shamans, and monks. In terms of stats it is starting seasonal gear (item level 276), but as a transmog the mace is valued precisely for its nature-shadow aesthetic, which is rare among one-handed blunt weapons.
Source
The Gnarled Thornmace drops from Midnight delve rewards — it is seasonal loot shared across the entire delve pool of the first season. It has no specific owner boss: the item drops from chests and vaults at the end of a run.
- Source — Midnight delves (for example, "Sunwell Plaza" on the Isle of Quel'Danas and "The Gnawing" in Harandar).
- Mode — solo or in a small group of up to 5 players, entered through the delve system.
- The loot level scales with the delve tier: the higher the tier, the higher the final item level.
- There is no attempt limit — delves can be run as many times as you like, so transmog farming is not bottlenecked by a weekly lockout.
- Empowered enemies marked on the minimap improve the delve's final vault and increase the chance of a drop.
Since the item is bind on pickup, it cannot be transferred between characters — you need to farm it on the character that wants the appearance.
Alternatives
The Gnarled Thornmace currently has no confirmed in-game recolors with separate identifiers. The model's silhouette is shared across the Midnight delve blunt-weapon line, so look for similarly shaped variants among the other one-handed maces of the same seasonal pool.
- Blunt weapons with a similar silhouette drop from the same Midnight delve pool — keep an eye out for heads with a natural and shadowy texture.
- If you want this exact appearance, look for the weapon icon from the Harandar dungeon family.
Who It Suits Visually
- Suits sets with a nature-druidic theme — green, brown, and bone armor reinforce the mace's "thorny" presentation.
- Harmonizes with the violet-shadow sets of Midnight thanks to the Void veins on the model.
- Creates a striking contrast with heavy plate — a debatable but memorable combination of organic and metal.
- A good choice for enhancement shaman or monk looks in a "wild nature" spirit, where the weapon reads as a root or a club made of living wood.
- Fitting in paired looks with a shield or a second mace of similar texture for a symmetrical "thorny" combo.
Tips
It is more efficient to farm at delve tiers your character can handle without risking a wipe — run speed matters more than loot level if transmog is the only goal.
Bring a delve companion helper: it takes some of the damage and speeds up the solo clear.
Finish off empowered enemies marked on the minimap — they raise the quality of the final vault.
On a rogue or monk, runs are faster thanks to high mobility and control over mob packs.
The same delve pool gives a chance at several weapon models per season — alongside the mace you can also close out other appearances you need.
Check your loot right away: the transmog unlocks in the wardrobe automatically when you receive the item, even if you do not equip it.
Since the item is bind on pickup, do not count on buying it later or getting it from another character — plan your farm in advance.
