Overview

Gooey Snailemental

Game iconGooey Snailemental is an uncommon ground mount added to World of Warcraft: Dragonflight in patch 10.0.7. The mount is a bright-blue, semi-transparent snail woven from the residual elemental energy of the Primordial Storms. The item's flavor text reads: "Formed from the leftover energy of the Primordial Storms, this magical mollusk is faster than it looks."

To add this snailemental to your collection, you need to gather 50 Game iconLeftover Elemental Slime from the final boss of the Primordial Storm in the Froststone Vault event on The Forbidden Reach. The event occurs every two hours and has no weekly loot lockout.

Why you want this mount

  • Unique model — this is one of four snailemental variations that exist in the game. The blue color with its semi-transparent "slimy" texture makes the mount visually distinctive
  • Guaranteed collection — unlike drop-chance mounts, you control your own progress. Each event brings you 1-4 slime closer to the finish
  • No weekly cap — you can farm the event as many times a day as you like. The only restriction is the spawn timer of once every 2 hours
  • Fast movement — the mount gains a +60% or +100% movement speed bonus depending on your riding skill
  • Account-wide — once you earn the mount on one character, you unlock it across your entire collection, regardless of faction and class
  • Bonus rewards — while farming you earn [progress toward the Under the Weather achievement

How to obtain

Obtaining the mount comes down to regularly attending the Primordial Storm event and trading in your accumulated slime.

  1. Level a character to level 10 and complete the introductory quest to reach The Forbidden Reach. Access to the island opens in patch 10.0.7 via a starter quest from Hamaar in Valdrakken
  2. Wait for the event to activate. The Froststone Vault is located in the north-central part of the island, coordinates ~60, 39. When a storm is active, an elemental skull icon of the matching element appears on the map
  3. Enter the event zone. In the first phase the main elite boss is invulnerable — first you must destroy the five elite mini-bosses around the vault
  4. After the fifth elite elemental dies, the final boss becomes available. Kill it
  5. The final boss's corpse drops 0-5 Game iconLeftover Elemental Slime
  6. Repeat the event every 2 hours until you have accumulated 50 slime
  7. Right-click the stack of slime in your inventory — the Game iconCombine Slime spell will turn it into the Game iconGooey Snailemental

The "Primordial Storm in the Froststone Vault" event

The storm spawns randomly in one of four elemental variants: air, earth, fire or water. The mechanics of each storm are identical, but the name of the first phase and the name of the final boss change.

| Element | First phase name | |---|---|---| | Air | On the Gust Front | | Earth | Stand Your Ground | | Fire | A Heated Exchange | | Water | A Rain of Terror |

Phase mechanics

  1. Phase 1 — elite elementals. Five elite mini-bosses of the matching element spawn around the vault. You must kill them all
  2. Phase 2 — final boss. After the fifth mini-boss dies, the central elite becomes vulnerable. Killing it completes the event and grants the main reward

Farming optimization

Time calculation

The event appears every 2 hours, at the top of the hour. On average the boss drops 2-3 slime. So to obtain 50 slime you will need roughly 17-25 runs, which on a strict schedule comes to about 2-3 weeks of real time. However, there are several ways to speed up the process.

Shard hopping

The main trick for accelerated farming is moving between server shards after killing the boss. On a single event activation you can kill the final boss across several shards in a row, if you can reach them while the storm is active.

  1. Group up with friends or through the group finder (the "Group Finder" tool → "Custom"). Look for listings like "Gooey Snailemental shard"
  2. After killing the boss, leave the group and join a new one on a different shard
  3. Repeat while the event is active. Experienced players collect 15-25 slime during a single storm

The "Stale Look" achievement

To earn Under the Weather you need to complete a storm of each of the four elements. Since the element is chosen at random, this can take time on its own. While farming the mount, the achievement closes out automatically.

Activations on alts

Unlike weekly mounts, the Gooey Snailemental is farmed by a single character. Additional accounts or characters do not increase the slime collection rate on your main hero — progress is tracked separately for each character, and the slime is bound to it.

Tips

1

Set an event timer — many players use a WeakAura. This lets you fly in to the event ahead of time and not miss activations

2

Arrive 5 minutes before the start — the elite mini-bosses do not appear instantly, but with a slight delay after the skull spawns on the map. Arriving early guarantees you a spot in the group and the first click on a mob

3

Use DragonridingThe Forbidden Reach is open for dragonriding from the start, which significantly speeds up travel between points

4

Finish off via the group finder — if there are few players on your shard, the event may drag on or fail. Find an active shard through the "Group Finder"

5

The mount is account-wide once earned — as soon as one character combines 50 slime, the inv_snailmount_blueGooey Snailemental appears in the collection of all your characters

6

Don't throw away "extra" slime — if you have Leftover Elemental Slime remaining after earning the mount, it is useless. But until you earn it, keep the entire accumulated stack in one place, otherwise you might accidentally sell it to a vendor

7

Watch the phase — during the first phase the main boss is invulnerable. Don't waste abilities on it before killing all five elite mini-bosses, or you will lose cooldowns and resources
