Overview

Gorespine

Game iconGorespine is a ground mount from the Shadowlands expansion that drops from the rare enemy Nerissa Heartless in the Maldraxxus zone. It is a massive undead boar with bony spikes and a greenish skin tone, a typical example of Maldraxxian fauna. According to lore, Nerissa trampled countless bodies while riding Gorespine as she climbed the ranks to become a commander of the necromantic forces of the House of Rituals.

The mount belongs to the skeletal boar family and shares its model with other Maldraxxian boars, such as the Blistered Bloodtusk and the Dreadful Bloodtusk. Gorespine sets itself apart with its pale-green coloring and the bony growths along its back.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Simple acquisition mechanic — no quest chains, reputation, or specific covenant required. You just need to find Nerissa Heartless, kill her, and hope for good luck
  • Available to any character — there is no tie to a covenant, faction, or profession. Any character of an appropriate level can farm this mount
  • Unique appearance — a pale-green undead boar with bony spikes stands out among typical mounts and is a perfect fit for Necrolord-themed transmog sets
  • Multi-character farming — the mount can be farmed simultaneously across several characters, one attempt per day each, which significantly speeds up acquisition
  • Account-wide — once learned, the mount becomes available to all of your characters

How to Obtain

Gorespine drops from Nerissa Heartless, a rare enemy in the Maldraxxus zone. The drop chance is roughly 2%, so obtaining the mount will require patience and regular attempts.

  1. Head to Maldraxxus. Use the portal from Oribos to Maldraxxus or fly on a gryphon to the nearest flight point
  2. Make your way to the House of Rituals in the northeastern part of the zone (coordinates 66.0 35.2)
  3. Find Nerissa Heartless. She is marked on the map as a rare enemy (silver star). If she is missing, she has already been killed — come back later
  4. Clear out the surrounding mobs around Nerissa before the fight so you do not pull extra aggro
  5. Kill Nerissa and collect the loot. If Game iconGorespine did not drop, repeat the attempt the next day
  6. Use the obtained item to learn the mount

Nerissa Heartless — Details

Nerissa Heartless is a level 61 undead classified as a rare enemy. Her health is around 1,290,000 points, which makes the fight fairly easy for a max-level character.

Abilities

  • Heart Attack — deals Nature damage and increases the damage the target takes. Dodging is recommended
  • Iron Shackles — deals escalating physical damage and roots the target. Interrupt this ability first
  • Cursed Strength — increases the damage of Nerissa's weapon by 50%. Interrupt the cast if you can

Combat Tactics

Nerissa is easily soloed at max level (90 in Midnight). The key is to interrupt Iron Shackles, since the root combined with escalating damage can be unpleasant. Cursed Strength is worth interrupting when possible, but even with the buff Nerissa poses no serious threat to a well-geared character. The fight lasts no more than 10–15 seconds.

How to Reach Nerissa

Via Oribos

  1. From any capital, use the portal to Oribos
  2. In Oribos, find the portal to Maldraxxus (the Hall of Shapes)
  3. Fly to the northeast of the zone toward the House of Rituals
  4. Nerissa stands at the entrance to the House of Rituals area at coordinates 66.0 35.2

Farming Optimization

Respawn and Limits

  • Respawn: Nerissa respawns every 40–60 minutes after being killed
  • Limit: loot is available only once per day per character. After the first kill, Nerissa changes status from "Rare" to "Elite" for that character until the next daily reset
  • Daily reset: occurs at 09:00 server time

Multi-Character Farming

Since loot is limited to one attempt per day per character, the most efficient way to speed up obtaining the mount is to farm on several characters:

  1. Create or use several max-level alts
  2. Make sure each character has access to Maldraxxus unlocked (this requires completing the Shadowlands introductory quest chain)
  3. Log in to each character daily, kill Nerissa, and check the loot
  4. With 5 characters, your daily odds rise from 2% to roughly 10%

Farming Math

With a ~2% drop chance and one attempt per day:

  • 1 character: 50 days on average (50 attempts)
  • 3 characters: 17 days on average
  • 5 characters: 10 days on average
  • 10 characters: 5 days on average

These are average values — the actual result depends on luck. Some players get the mount on their first kill, while others need more than 100 attempts.

Tips

1

Clear the surroundings — Nerissa stands among other mobs. Before starting the fight, kill the nearby enemies so they do not interfere with or slow down the fight

2

Interrupt Iron Shackles — this is Nerissa's most dangerous ability. The root combined with escalating damage can kill a poorly geared character. Keep an interrupt ready

3

Use the RareFinder or SilverDragon addon — these addons automatically alert you to the appearance of rare enemies, including Nerissa. You will get an audio and visual notification when she spawns

4

Do not wait for the respawn — Nerissa only gives loot once per day. There is no point in waiting for her to reappear on the same character

5

Combine with farming other mounts — Maldraxxus has several other rare enemies that drop mounts. Plan a route that covers all the rares in a single run

6

The mount is ground-only — keep in mind that Gorespine cannot fly. If you need a flying mount, consider other options from Shadowlands

7

Check for a group — in the group finder, people sometimes create groups for Maldraxxus rares. Joining a group on another realm gives you an extra attempt if Nerissa is still alive on that realm

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
