Overview

Heavy Ogre War Axe

Game iconHeavy Ogre War Axe is an early-Azeroth two-handed axe with a massive, crude blade in the distinctive ogre style: a wide head on a thick haft, free of any frills but with a clear emphasis on raw striking power. It is a low-level weapon (character level 10 required), and today it is valuable purely as a transmog: the look conveys the wild, makeshift aesthetic of a weapon forged by ogre hands.

The item hails from the very first Azeroth and is available to almost every appearance collector. Despite its modest level, the axe has a recognizable silhouette that fits "barbarian" and "savage" appearance concepts well.

Source

The Heavy Ogre War Axe drops from regular mobs — it is a classic world drop from the ogres of the Splinter Fist clan.

  • The main source is the Splinter Fist Warrior, an ordinary humanoid ogre that dwells in the Duskwood zone.
  • The drop chance is low — around 0.14%, so plan on serial farming rather than a couple of kills.
  • The ogre camp is in the eastern part of Duskwood, where the mobs stand densely in groups around the coordinates 35, 78.
  • The item becomes soulbound on equip, so you will have to farm the appearance on the character who needs it (or unlock it through the appearance collection after obtaining it).

Coordinate for plotting a route to the camp:

/way #10 35 78 Splinter Fist Clan Camp

Who it suits visually

  • It pairs with "savage" and "barbarian" sets made of leather and fur — the crude forging of the blade echoes primitive armor.
  • It harmonizes with dark gray and steel armor color schemes, where the weapon is meant to look heavy and utilitarian.
  • It fits orc- and ogre-themed looks, as well as "trollish" and tribal concepts.
  • It contrasts with richly adorned gilded armor — against such a backdrop the axe looks deliberately crude, which can be either a drawback or a conscious stylistic choice.

Tips

1

Farming the appearance is easiest on a class with strong pack clearing — a Paladin, Demon Hunter, or Mage quickly mows down the ogre camp and shortens the time between attempts.

2

Because of the low drop chance, plan for a long farming session: kill every clan ogre in the camp, not just one specific type, since other mobs respawn nearby as well.

3

Duskwood is a low-level Alliance zone, so Horde characters should account for the trip and possible skirmishes along the route.

4

The ogres in the camp respawn quickly, so a circular sweep of the spawn points lets you farm with almost no downtime.

5

Once it drops, you only need to equip the item once to unlock its appearance in the collection forever — after that, the axe can be sold or destroyed.

6

If your only goal is the transmog, do not chase stats: any copy of the item will do for the look.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
