TBC Classic Herbalism Profession Guide (Phase 3)

Herbalism is a gathering profession that supplies alchemists with raw materials. Flasks, elixirs, and potions get burned through in raids by the stack, which means herbs sell steadily with no seasonal slumps.

Beyond the herbs themselves, the profession grants plant tracking on the minimap and a healing ability that restores health out of combat. In Outland, some herbs are found only in specific zones, and their price stays high throughout the entire expansion.

The most logical pairing for Herbalism is Alchemy: gather it, brew it, sell it. The second viable option is Herbalism together with Mining, if you just want to farm for profit.

Trainers can be found in every capital city; the Master rank (300-375) is learned in Outland.

There's nothing to buy — Herbalism levels up through gathering alone. Things to keep in mind:

• Learn new profession ranks on time: without them, higher-level plants won't appear on your minimap.
• Turn on herb tracking — it comes together with the profession.
• Gather everything, not just the "herb you need": even green plants give skill and sell.

Skill grows fastest if you run circuits around a single zone rather than sweeping through it entirely. Plants respawn quickly enough that by the end of a loop the first nodes are already available again.

Levels 1-70

Gather Peacebloom, Silverleaf, and Earthroot.

Best zones: Durotar, Mulgore, Tirisfal Glades, Elwynn Forest, Teldrassil, Dun Morogh.

Levels 70-115

Gather Mageroyal, Briarthorn, and Stranglekelp.

Best zones: The Barrens, Silverpine Forest, Loch Modan, Darkshore.

Levels 115-170

Gather Bruiseweed, Wild Steelbloom, Kingsblood, and Liferoot.

Best zones: Hillsbrad Foothills, Wetlands, Stonetalon Mountains.

Levels 170-205

Gather Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, Khadgar's Whisker, and Kingsblood.

Best zones: Stranglethorn Vale, Arathi Highlands.

Levels 205-230

Gather Purple Lotus and Firebloom.

Best zones: Tanaris, Searing Gorge.

Levels 230-270

Gather Sungrass, Ghost Mushroom, and Golden Sansam.

Best zone: The Hinterlands.

Levels 270-300

Gather Gromsblood, Dreamfoil, Mountain Silversage, and Sorrowmoss.

Best zone: Felwood.

In Felwood the plants are packed very densely, and a single loop covers several skill levels at once. This is the fastest zone across the whole stretch from 270 to 300.

From here on you need the Master rank from Ruak Stronghorn or Rorelien.

Levels 300-315

Gather Felweed.

Best zone: Hellfire Peninsula.

Levels 315-325

Keep at Felweed, with Dreaming Glory added in.

Best zones: Blade's Edge Mountains, Nagrand.

Levels 325-350

Gather Ragveil and Terocone.

Best zones: Terokkar Forest, Zangarmarsh.

Levels 350-375

Gather Netherbloom, Nightmare Vine, and Mana Thistle.

Best zone: Netherstorm.

Mana Thistle is the most expensive herb in the expansion; it grows only in Netherstorm and the Shadowmoon Valley and requires 375 skill. It's the whole reason people level the profession to the cap.

The steadiest income is selling herbs by the stack to alchemists ahead of raid days. Demand is predictable: everyone needs flasks and potions, every single week.

If you have Alchemy, it's more profitable to brew yourself: the gap between the price of an herb and the price of a finished flask is usually several times over. And the routes through Netherstorm and the Shadowmoon Valley are worth learning separately — the rare herbs there pay off your time the best.
