Lavaforge Monolith — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Lavaforge Monolith is an epic-quality two-handed staff added in the Shadowlands expansion alongside patch 9.2.5. In the modern game, players seek it out not for its stats but for its appearance: the model is styled after the Dark Iron dwarves — a massive haft of dark metal topped with a head in which molten lava seems frozen in place.
The staff belongs to a set of weapon appearances themed around Dark Iron dwarf heritage. Besides the staff, the same set teaches the one-handed axe
Lavaforge Hacker and the shield
Lavaforge Bulwark. All three appearances follow a single fiery-metallic palette and look great alongside the Dark Iron dwarf heritage armor set.
Source
The appearance cannot be looted from a boss or bought with currency — it is learned from the weapon set granted for completing the Dark Iron dwarf heritage questline.
- The chain begins in the Underbelly within Blackrock Depths from the vendor Anvil-Thane Thurgaden.
- The final quest Weapons o' the Dark Iron awards the item
Arsenal: Lavaforge Armaments. - Using the arsenal teaches all three appearances at once: the staff itself, the one-handed axe, and the shield.
- The chain is available only to Dark Iron dwarves: you need a character of that allied race at level 50 or higher.
- You also need the Dark Iron dwarf heritage armor already obtained and the achievement "Heritage of the Dark Iron."
- The character must be leveled by hand: heritage racial quests are closed to anyone who used a level boost or a race change.
After learning the arsenal, the appearances become available for transmogrification to all eligible characters on the account and any race, not just Dark Iron dwarves.
Who It Suits Visually
- Suits looks built around lava smiths and Dark Iron dwarves in a dark-metallic palette.
- Harmonizes with the Dark Iron dwarf heritage armor set the kit was designed around.
- Pairs with plate and mail sets in shades of dark steel and smoldering coal.
- Looks great in fiery, volcanic outfits thanks to the molten head.
- Contrasts with cold icy and void sets: a debatable but striking choice.
Tips
To start the chain, you need a Dark Iron dwarf at level 50 or higher with the heritage armor already obtained.
The most convenient way to reach the Underbelly in Blackrock Depths is via the Dark Iron Highway — the dwarves' network of mole machines.
First earn the achievement "Heritage of the Dark Iron," otherwise the second heritage chain with the weapons will not appear.
A single alt leveled by hand unlocks the appearances for the entire account, so there is no need to repeat the chain on other characters.
After turning in the final quest, do not forget to use the arsenal from your bag — the appearances are added to the collection only after the item is applied.
Once you obtain the set, you immediately unlock the staff, axe, and shield, closing several transmog slots in a single run.
