Machine Gob's Iron Grin — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

"Machine Gob's Iron Grin" is an epic two-handed maul added to World of Warcraft with The War Within expansion. It is a massive goblin sledgehammer with a menacing toothy maw on its striking head and an explosive mechanism inside. The look is true to the Undermine's industrial style: rusty metal, rivets, gears, and warning-stripe paint.
The maul looks great on goblin- and machine-themed outfits — for warriors, paladins, death knights, and druids who wield two-handed blunt weapons. These days the item is valued primarily as a transmog: gear from last expansion's content is no longer relevant in terms of power, but the bold "sledgehammer" silhouette remains in demand.
Source
The maul drops from The Underpin — a special enemy hidden in the Demolition Dome zone of The War Within expansion.
- The Underpin is located in the Demolition Dome, in the northern part of the arena — the entrance is hidden behind the stands at coordinates
/way 50.4 12.2. - This is a delve-format enemy: it can be cleared solo, without assembling a full group.
- To unlock the standard difficulty of the fight, you need to complete a bountiful tier 7 delve with remaining resurrections.
- There is a separate achievement, Let Me Solo Him: The Underpin, for defeating it on your own.
- The maul is bound on pickup; it cannot be transferred to another character.
Visually Suitable For
- Perfect for goblin and mechanical looks in the spirit of the Undermine's engineers and demolitionists.
- Pairs well with industrial-themed armor — rusty metal, rivets, leather, and brass.
- Looks great in the hands of warriors and death knights who rely on brute force and heavy weaponry.
- Contrasts with elegant elven and holy sets — a debatable but memorable combination for a deliberately "dirty" look.
Tips
Before your first fight, make sure you have completed a bountiful tier 7 delve with remaining resurrections — without this, the standard difficulty of The Underpin will not unlock.
The entrance is easy to miss: look for a passage along the side walls of the Demolition Dome arena rather than through the center, and head to the small building by the back wall.
The fight is designed for solo play, so it is convenient to farm the look on any character of a suitable class without forming a group.
The maul does not drop guaranteed, so it makes sense to repeat the run if you are unlucky.
The look is added to your collection immediately upon obtaining the item — you do not have to wear it to unlock it.
To speed up farming, run The Underpin in parallel on several characters who can use two-handed blunt weapons.
