Overview

Mekgineer's Chopper

Game iconMekgineer's Chopper is an iconic two-seat ground mount shaped like a motorcycle with a sidecar, crafted through the Engineering profession. The mount was added in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion and remains one of the most recognizable rides in World of Warcraft. The Mekgineer's Chopper lets you carry one party member in the sidecar, making it not only stylish but also practical.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Two-seat mount — you can seat one party member in the sidecar and travel together
  • Unique model — a motorcycle with a sidecar, a "PWN" license plate, and a distinctive engine roar
  • Sellable — a crafted Game iconMekgineer's Chopper is not soulbound and can be sold at the auction house, making it a source of income for engineers
  • Achievement — learning the mount counts toward Get to the Choppa!
  • Cross-faction — when you learn the Mekgineer's Chopper you automatically also gain its Horde version, and vice versa

Requirements

Requirement Details
Profession Engineering (450 / Northrend)
Reputation Exalted with the Alliance Vanguard (to buy the schematic)
Riding level 40+ (Journeyman riding skill)

Note: if you play for the Horde, you need Exalted reputation with the Horde Expedition and the recipe Game iconSchematic: Mechano-Hog. The result is the same — learning either version of the mount grants you both.

Where to Buy the Schematic

Game iconSchematic: Mekgineer's Chopper is sold by the Alliance Vanguard quartermaster at Exalted reputation:

Schematic cost: about 350 gold (depending on reputation discounts).

How to Quickly Reach Exalted with the Alliance Vanguard

The Alliance Vanguard is an umbrella faction whose reputation rises automatically as you earn reputation with any of its member factions:

  • Valiance Expedition
  • Explorers' League
  • The Silver Covenant
  • The Frostborn

At level 90, reputation builds up quickly while running Northrend dungeons and quests.

Game iconHandful of Cobalt Bolts 40 Engineering (from cobalt bars)
Game iconArctic Fur 2 Skinning / Auction House

Step-by-Step Guide to Obtaining It

  1. Level up Engineering to 450 (Northrend). If you have a different specialization, it doesn't matter — no specialization is required to craft the Mechano-Hog.
  2. Earn Exalted reputation with the Alliance Vanguard. Complete Northrend quests and dungeons — reputation accumulates along the way.
  3. Buy Game iconSchematic: Mekgineer's Chopper from the Alliance Vanguard quartermaster and learn it.
  4. Buy the vendor parts from Roxi Ramrocket in K3, the Storm Peaks (12,500 gold).
  5. Gather or buy at the auction house the crafting materials: 12 Titansteel Bars, 40 Handfuls of Cobalt Bolts, 2 Arctic Furs.
  6. Craft the Mekgineer's Chopper through the Engineering profession window.
  7. Use the item Game iconMekgineer's Chopper — it will appear in your mount collection. When you learn it you will also receive the Game iconMechano-Hog (the Horde version).

Tips and Tricks

  • Buy materials at the right moment. Prices for titansteel and eternals fluctuate. Watch the auction house and stock up when prices are low.
  • Farm the raw materials yourself if you want to save money. Titanium ore is mined in Northrend (the Sholazar Basin and the Storm Peaks are the best routes). Arctic Fur is skinned from Northrend animals.
  • No Engineering specialization needed. Unlike some recipes, the Mechano-Hog is available to any engineer with skill 450.
  • Two seats are a real advantage. You can give friends who lack a mount in a given location a lift, or help newcomers get around.
  • The "PWN" license plate. A fun detail — the mount has a license plate reading "PWN", a nod to gaming slang.
  • An alternative to crafting. If you aren't an engineer, the Mechano-Hog can simply be bought at the auction house from other players. It will cost more, but it won't require leveling the profession.
