Overview

Mereldar Spellblade

Game iconMereldar Spellblade is an uncommon one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft in the Cataclysm expansion (patch 4.0.3). It is a light, short blade with a straight edge and a modest guard — a weapon from the "everyday" category of early Cataclysm tiers, with no flashy effects or glow.

The dagger is intended for spellcasters: its stats — +12 Intellect and +3 Stamina — are aimed at characters dealing magic damage and healing. It can be wielded by priests, mages, warlocks, druids, shamans, and dwarves (with the arrival of evokers this weapon type is available to them as well). Item level is 15, required level is 31, damage 1-3, speed 1.80.

For transmog, what matters is not the stats but the appearance. The blade belongs to the family of Cataclysm spellblade daggers that share a single model with display id 68372. It is a tidy, universal silhouette without overloaded geometry — models like this fit well into calm, "scholarly" caster looks.

Source

Mereldar Spellblade is a typical world drop from the Cataclysm era. It has no single owner: the item drops from hundreds of creatures within the matching level range all across the renewed Azeroth. According to item databases, the dagger appears in the loot tables of several hundred mobs, so there is no specific boss or rare opponent to point to here.

Key loot details:

  • It is a world drop — the dagger falls randomly from ordinary mobs of roughly level 30-35, with no tie to a dungeon or raid.
  • The drop chance from each individual creature is extremely low, as with any green world drop.
  • The go-to farming locations are Cataclysm zones of the matching level: Twilight Highlands and Uldum. Zones from the early Cataclysm range, such as Eastern Plaguelands, also work.
  • The item becomes soulbound on equip, so a looted copy cannot be passed to another character, but before equipping it can be bought and sold.
  • The dagger regularly shows up on the auction house — for transmog it is easier to buy than to farm deliberately.

The blade's name references Mereldar — an area and a lake of the same name in the Eastern Plaguelands, reworked in Cataclysm. This explains the "location-based" naming of the whole series: each dagger in the family is named after a place on the map.

Who it suits visually

  • Suits caster looks of early and middle Azeroth — the dagger does not clash with cloth sets from Cataclysm zones of level 30-40.
  • Harmonizes with light and color-neutral cloth sets: the blade's understated silhouette does not draw attention to itself.
  • A good choice for "scholarly" and "priestly" concepts, where the weapon should look like a modest tool rather than a battle artifact.
  • Fits minimalist builds where the accent is on the armor, cloak, or staff, and the dagger plays the role of a restrained detail.
  • Suits low-level characters and caster twinks who need a tidy, effect-free dagger right during leveling.

Tips

1

For transmog it is enough to obtain any dagger of the family with model 68372 once — the appearance will be saved in the wardrobe forever and become available to all characters on the account.

2

Don't waste time farming a specific mob deliberately: as a world drop the blade is not tied to anyone, and the chance from any individual creature is equally small.

3

The fastest route is the auction house. Cataclysm green world drops are cheap, and on large servers the dagger you need is almost always for sale.

4

If you prefer to obtain the blade yourself, farm mobs in Cataclysm zones around level 30-35 — there the loot range matches the item level.

5

Check the whole series at once: Netander's Spellblade, Thondroril Spellblade, and Wolf River Spellblade give the same appearance, and one of them may turn out cheaper or show up sooner.

6

The dagger becomes soulbound on equip — if you buy a copy on a twink for the appearance, equip it on that very character; the wardrobe is shared across the account anyway.

7

A spare duplicate can be broken down with enchanting: a green Cataclysm dagger yields enchanting materials of that period, so a wasted purchase doesn't go to waste.
