Overview

Mighty Caravan Brutosaur

Game iconReins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur is one of the rarest and most expensive mounts in World of Warcraft. It is the only mount in the game with an auctioneer on its back, letting you use the auction house anywhere in the world. Only about 4% of players own it.

The Mighty Caravan Brutosaur was originally sold for 5,000,000 gold during the Battle for Azeroth expansion, but it was removed from vendors with the release of Shadowlands. The only way to obtain it now is the Black Market.

Why You Want This Mount

The Mighty Caravan Brutosaur is not just a collector's rarity. Two NPCs ride on its back:

  • Auctioneer — full access to the auction house right from the mount, in any location.
  • Vendor — buys and sells items.

This makes the Brutosaur indispensable for players who trade on the auction house: you can post and cancel listings without returning to a capital city. It is especially useful when farming materials, clearing old raids, and running dungeons — sell unwanted loot on the spot.

In addition, obtaining the mount grants you the Conspicuous Consumption achievement — a special feat of strength.

Availability History

The history of this mount is divided into two periods:

Battle for Azeroth Period (2018–2020)

During the Battle for Azeroth expansion, the mount was sold by two vendors:

Faction Vendor Location Price
Horde Talutu The Great Seal, Dazar'alor 5,000,000 gold
Alliance Tricky Nick Hook Point, Boralus 5,000,000 gold

Even by Battle for Azeroth standards, 5 million gold was an enormous sum. Most players could not afford it.

Since Patch 9.0.1 and to This Day (since October 2020)

With the release of the Shadowlands pre-patch (patch 9.0.1, October 13, 2020), the mount was completely removed from vendors. The only way to obtain it is the Black Market.

How to Obtain the Mount via the Black Market

Where the Black Market Is Located

In the current expansion, The War Within, the Black Market is located in the city of Dornogal, in the Rift district. The NPC Madam Goya runs the auction.

Access to the Black Market is only available to level 80 characters.

How the Auction Works

The Black Market differs from the regular auction house:

  1. The selection refreshes daily — a new set of items appears each day
  2. You don't choose what to buy — the goods are determined randomly, and the Brutosaur appears extremely rarely
  3. The starting bid for the Brutosaur is 5,000,000 gold
  4. The maximum bid (gold cap) is 9,999,999 gold
  5. Each new bid raises the price by 5% and extends the auction by 5 minutes
  6. The auction lasts about 24 hours, but it can be extended by bids in the final minutes
  7. A bid cannot be cancelled — once you place gold, it is locked until the auction ends

Step-by-Step Buying Strategy

  1. Save up at least 9,999,999 gold. The Brutosaur almost always sells at the maximum price. Having less than the gold cap means you will almost certainly lose the bidding.

  2. Check the Black Market every day. Visit Madam Goya and see whether "Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur" is on the list. The mount appears very rarely — be prepared for weeks and months of waiting.

  3. Use characters on different realms. Each realm has its own Black Market with a separate selection. The more realms you check, the higher your chance of finding the Brutosaur. For this, it is enough to have level 80 characters on several realms.

  4. Bid the maximum amount right away. When the Brutosaur is found, don't try to save gold — bid 9,999,999. This guarantees you cannot be outbid, since the next bid would have to exceed yours by 5%, which is already above the cap.

  5. Wait for the auction to end. If your bid is the highest, you will receive the mount by mail after the bidding concludes.

How Much Gold You Need and How to Earn It

Nearly 10 million gold is a serious sum. Several ways to accumulate it:

  • Professions and the auction house — crafting and selling in-demand items (potions, gems, gear)
  • Farming old raids — selling loot to vendors brings steady income across several characters
  • Playing the auction house — buying cheap materials and reselling at a markup
  • WoW Token — can be purchased with real money and sold on the auction house for gold

Accumulating 10 million gold usually takes several months of active play.

Mount Characteristics

Attribute Value
Type Ground mount
Speed +100% (depends on riding skill)
Passengers Auctioneer + vendor (NPCs)
Flies No
Size One of the largest mounts in the game
Item ID Game icon163042

The Brutosaur is strictly a ground mount. It cannot fly, which may be inconvenient in some situations, but its unique functionality more than makes up for it.

Alternative: Trader's Gilded Brutosaur

In October 2024, Blizzard released the Game iconTrader's Gilded Brutosaur — a reworked version of the original mount, tied to the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft. This mount costs $90 in the Battle.net Shop and also provides access to an auctioneer and a mailbox while mounted.

Key differences:

Mighty Caravan Brutosaur Trader's Gilded Brutosaur
Price ~10M gold (BMAH) $90 (real money)
Availability Extremely rare on the Black Market Battle.net Shop
Auctioneer Yes Yes
Mailbox No Yes
Appearance Original coloring Gilded version with gems

If your main goal is a portable auction house, the gilded version is easier to obtain. The original Brutosaur remains a status symbol and a collector's item.

Tips and Recommendations

  • An addon for monitoring the BMAH. There are addons (for example, BattlePetCage BMAH Scanner) that help track the Black Market's selection across different realms.

  • Character transfers. If the Brutosaur appears on a realm where you don't have a character with enough gold, you can theoretically pay for a character transfer. However, a transfer takes time, and the auction may end sooner.

  • Patience is the key factor. Many players wait months for the Brutosaur to appear on the BMAH. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

  • The gold must be on one character. To place a bid, all 9,999,999 gold must be on a single character — gold spread across alts won't help.
